Is the Happy Gilmore approach (momentum swing) illegal on the PGA tour and long drive tour or is it legal?
Anyone ever see anyone try it.
jaskanski
Absolutely not. The rules only account for the ball to be "fairly struck" - it doesn't say anything about keeping your stance in one position. Unfortunately, it's hard enough for us mortals to faily strike a ball whilst at rest - let alone while galloping toward it.

according to this it is legal, but it is a hard move to execute. yes it will increase swing speed, but it also increases error.

What about using the putter like a pool cue stick?!?

Can't hit a ball with the grip end of the club.

I remember Paddy saying on I think it was play lessons or Fox behind the Science that it was legal but he has not tried it in a tourny.

He said he learned that shot by playing an Irish game somewhat similar to Field hockey, however a man's version of field hockey.

I like the pool cue idea. I've thought of that myself. Have a few very short friends who are excellent putters. Always thought having eyes closer to your line helped with accuracy. I'm a really flexible person so i'm going to be re-shafting one of my putters with a 15in shaft........ I can easily touch my head to my knees while bending over standing. I'll look like a complete moron but that's ok. I'll keep you guys posted if the results show improvement.

Ken Green used to use a 25" putter.

In a tournament? When he is playing for money? Maybe combine it with the exploding ball. That would be sure to get some yucks.

Hahaha! Well based on your avatar (you let your dinner engage in a deathmatch), I'd guess it won't look totally moronic.

At least you're not living somewhere where you have to cheer for the Bombers (ugh!).

Sadly, being a modern day Leo Diegel and using a 15" putter is a no-no under the rules.

Taking a run-up isn't though.

you mean people still watch the CFL?? lol....hey, I am Canadian (from Vancouver originally) so I saw that as a fellow Canadian. I always found the longer firld and fewer downs odd.....the worst though is getting 1 point for MISSING a field goal or punting through the endzone.......I still do not understand the logic to that.

At least you're not in the middle of Rider mania. I can't stand this place.

You should try taking just one step before giving it a lash. Much easier to get your footwork down. And just as impressive to people at the range (no other reason to do this than to try to drop some jaws). I can't imagine you get that much more mustard taking multiple steps, but it's something I need to figure out before I die.

Anyway Sergio can do it too, and he crushes it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGY7dxHor2U...re=channel_page

I just noticed one of these the other day at my irish in-laws house, now I know what it is. Actually would be a good warm up tool, i took a few golf swings with it.

Around my house "hurling" means something completely different. Like what Brandt Snedeker probably did after leaving the golf course on Sunday.

But on another all together more positive note, Paddy really looked athletic in that video clip. Pretty impressive to see him running into the ball like that while keeping his timing. So impressive, in fact, that I'm not going to even ask if he was using this technique last week while hitting so many poorly directed tee shots.
