A friend and I are going to take a short one day trip to either Otter Creek in Columbus Indiana, or Old Silo in Mt. Sterling Kentucky. I don't know how many people out there have played both, but I figured I would give it a shot. We are in the Cincinnati area, so the drive to Otter Creek is about 75 miles, and 120 miles to Old Silo. They are both about the same cost for 36 holes.

Anyone have any reasons to go to one over the other?

Thanks

Otter Creek, no contest. They have 27 holes, play them all if you can. Old Silo is good, Otter Creek better.

I have played BOTH. I would probably take Otter Creek, much more of classic design as well as having 27 holes to play. Although Old Silo has some VERY STRONG holes, it also has many weak holes as well.

Play Otter Creek and Old Silo the next time around....

Id go for Otter Creek. Have you ever played the course at Belterra Casino?

i am a member at Otter. play it every week...request North-West 9's when you go. I have also played Silo and think it is a great track.....Otter rough is long, and greens arent great but still good ! go for Otter....

These pictures of Otter Creek were taken back in EARLY April, so I am sure in the summer or fall it looks much, much nicer...

Yes, I have played the Belterra course. It was very nice, but an absolute slopfest the day we played it. I will go back eventually again, and maybe this time not have to wear waders to play golf. smile.gif

I am leaning toward Otter Creek as well. We love nice layouts, but to be honest, we are more picky about conditions then anything. I am assuming Otter Creeks conditions are superior to Old Silo as well?

What do you guys think are the best conditioned public courses within 150 miles of Cincinnati (besides Longaberger, The Fort, Brickyard, Bear Slide and Purgatory)?

Thanks for posting some pictures of the courses!

Chariot's Run in S. Indiana. Great shape.

played Otter last night...not in great shape..fairways long, rough around greens 5-6 inches. the greens are a little quicker but beat up. Old silo would be choice right now. Brickyard always immaculate, The Bull south of Lexington is great for the cost also and not far from Old Silo!

Here are a few pictures of Otter Creek from when I played there back in mid-April:

how is it 120 to old silo from cincy. there has to be a quicker way than to drive to lexington and then out 64. I bet a gps could take a faster route, maybe through some country roads.

Highway will be faster, Old Silo sits right next to I64.

We used to play Otter Creek all day for $100, don't know if they still offer it. Are best was 82 holes sun up to sun down.
