I know its the "cool thing" for the kids now but I don't think it should be allowed on the golf course. I saw Charlie Holland and Bhavik Patel both had this look going on, sure there were others as well. They look about as stupid as Ryan Moore's outfits, but hey thats JMO, what's your take?

Dont think it should be allowed. maybe you don't like the look, but should be banned. Come on. I dislike when old men wear white tube socks that go to there mid calf. i might petition my home course and see if they can disallow white tube socks on the golf course.

I hope you just got a little carried away. If not, would you prefer USGA sanctioned attire?

I have "popped my collar" one time while playing golf and it was because I burned my neck badly the previous day. for me it was uncomfortable and I dont like the look either, however, why should it be banned? There are tons of looks on the golf course that I have seen that are less professional looking than a popped collar.

It looks like a "don't ask, don't tell" identifier. I guess the only thing that would scream alternative lifestyle more would be if they were wearing a pink shirt with the collar "popped" white shorts and white belt. College kids are funny. Wait till they get a taste of the real world.

Popped collar keeps the back of your neck from getting too much sun. It's functional. Check out Els' neck.

It only became tool-ish in the 80s when Valley BMW driving yupsters tried to make it a fashion statement and then Hollywood portrayed them, sometimes wearing two or three polos with popped collars.....at night. laugh.gif

jimthebonecrusher, wow popping your collar now makes you a homosexual? amazing.

i am really surprised at the narrow-mindedness. I can understand not liking the look and i can see giving someone a nice jab about doing it but, banning it or calling someone gay - that is so ridiculous.

Personally, i do not make a habit of popping my collar, although i have done it on occasion. Just very surprised at the view some of you have.

Ok maybe I did go overboard in saying it should be banned, perhaps I what I should have said was personally I don't like to see it on the course. I don't question their lifestyle when I see it because I know kids always are coming up with new styles. I guess I am just a traditionalist when it comes to the game.

I think SPF 50 works better than a "popped" collar and you don't look like such a tool.

Well, yeah it does make you look gay. So now being blunt and not all touchy feely makes me narrowminded? Whatever you say. What about me wearing my camouflage cutoff lawn maintenance shorts to the course? You would be calling me a redneck. So how is this different?

Jim Colbert was doing this in the 70's looked bad the looks bad now.

He even wore a wide brim hat, so the idea of it keeping the sun off of his neck was a moot point.

You're obviously a relatively new member here. Once you spend a little more time on this site, the narrow-mindedness will no longer surprise you. You'll find it's more the norm than the exception.

I work in a high school so I see the popped collars all the time, but more so on the "cool guys" or the preppy golf team members. It's definitely not a "gay" thing. It's actually the opposite. More of a preppy-macho fashion statement, at least with folks under 20.

No, actually i get a kick out of the "Boo Weekly" look. It probably disappoints you that i would not hate you or your look on the golf course but not everyone is a "Hater". I have no problem speaking bluntly, in fact i dislike the overly PC atmosphere of our society.

But here is the thing, you don't like the way something looks, so it is Gay. That is in fact, NARROW-MINDED. I give you credit for your individualism on the course - i like people who go against the grain (read the Ryan Moore posts).

I am not looking to get into a debate over something i have little concern (popping a collar is meaningless) but i do not like people who can't see past there own point of view without hating.

I dont like it either...i wouldnt go as far as try to have it banned however it does make you look kinda silly on the course, JMO
