Not seeing alot of talk (or any) about the US Amatuer. Pretty amazing how good Tim Jackson is playing this year.
Also, have to give props to my old highschool as two alumns are in the top 15 after the first day and playing well the 2nd day.
Southern Hills is one of my favorite courses I've ever played. Looking forward to watching the action later in the week.

I was shocked to see Nick Taylor drop an 80 yesterday. Haven't seen anything from today though.
Big ups to the Jackson fellow!
Man I wish I woulda qualified. I'll be watching coverage the next 5 days though.

I'm surprised to see Rickie Fowler miss the field of 64 (likely). I'd think he would have had a chance to get some practice on those courses.

Is Fowler gonna miss? Wow! If I recall right he only shot 4 over yesterday and I didn't see many low scores.

Actually, I think Rickie will make the round of 64. He's at +7 for the two days which is currently T70...the playoff spot. Still lots of golf to be played.

Tim Jackson shoots even par 140 for medalist and he was penalized for slow play. Anyone know the details?

"Jackson was warned at pace-of-play checkpoints and he was one of two players in his group assessed a one-stroke penalty when he reached the scoring tent"

They didn't arrive at the checkpoints in the correct amount of time. Being late to the first one is a warning, being late to the second is a possible one stroke penalty, late to the third is a possible two stroke penalty, and missing the last is a possible DQ.
Jackson's group was late to the first checkpoint, and then missed the second one. But they missed the second because they had to wait for a ruling to be decided on the previous hole, so the USGA waived that miss. Unfortunately, the group in front of them pulled away by basically jogging between shots because they too had missed a checkpoint, causing Jackson's group to be further behind and miss the third checkpoint as well. The USGA decided that Jackson and playing partner Patrick Duncan had not made significant effort to catch up and they each received a one stroke penalty. John Kostis(Peter's son) apparently made enough of an effort to not get penalized.

And it just so happens that he was also right on the number of the cut line....that seems odd.

I don't see how two out of three get penalized for slow play. I thought the group is who is put on the clock. How do you decide one player made more of an effort than others? This is ridiculous. I understand that Tim Jackson was pretty upset by the whole exchange. I hope this does not affect his play today.

I love walking around SH, and wish I knew someone who could get me in for a round. I have lost a ball or 2 at every other course in Tulsa, it would be an honor to drop one in the water. But I don't know anyone that rich... haha.

The group is put on the clock and the USGA sends an official out after that to monitor them. It's up to that official to decide who and how much in terms of penalties.
It's happened before, and the basis was something like one player cut down his pre-shot routine and moved noticably faster than before the warning, while the other players did not, so he didn't get the penalty.

as gary koch observed, among the many incredible things about tiger's 3 straight us am titles is that he avoided something like the kick in birdie holland pulled off on the first playoff hole against uihlien. in a close match in match play, one great shot by your opponent can cook your goose. somehow tiger won three straight of these. i would almost say winning three straight majors is more likely.

Is there going to be any TV coverage of the finals tomorrow? I looked all over for some coverage today but could not find a thing. Very disapointing as the Womens amature was on TV and only 3 miles from my house at Old Warson CC a few weeks ago.

Great TV coverage huh? Starts at 3:00 central time and we get to watch roughly two holes before the 17 year old Korean shuts out Martin 7 & 5. That was exciting, NOT! All in all a whoping 40 minutes of coverage.

Yea I didn't even bother to turn it on when I checked the scores earlier. I think it was last year I really wanted to watch the Danny Lee and Kittleson match but didn't get to because the Indians went extra innings with the Royals...both teams with 0 chance of making the playoffs.

Byeong-Hun Ah won. Youngest US Am ever at 17.
As far as the scores being high, this was one of the toughest courses ever. The greens were ridiculously fast.

Thought Bud Cauley would go further. VERY solid golfer and good kid. Expect him to make noise the next few years. Great golf swing and good head on his shoulders.
