In the last 6 major club competitions, I have let seriously good scores go on the back 9. Can anyone please help me? I wish golf was 15 holes instead of 18!! russian_roulette.gif

If it was, you would just start choking on 11. J/K smile.gif

Phil i thought you lived in San Diego? The info says Dublin on your profile.

By the time your getting to the 14, 15 and 16th holes you are probably looking ahead to much. You may be already thinking about what score you are probably going to shoot, I know I am guilty of this. Just try to take it one hole at a time.

that would be my serious answer aswell. People fall apart at the end of rounds because of looking ahead to what they will post. Same as a 15 handicap knowing he has to par the last 2 holes to break 80, or a 5 with a chance to break par for the first time...they will probably drive it into the trees on the next hole. I have been guilty of this many times. As you get better the circumstances change but the concept remains the same

I know this sounds dumb and that you've probably heard it before, but the key to closing for me has always been to keep my mind in the present and to continue to trust my stroke. If you can do that, then the play down the stretch seems a lot simpler.

May also be a question of fitness. Heart rate over the final holes goes up as well so you may want to put a little stock in that as well. Improved cardio and physical strength lessens the impact on your overall game.

I've found after improving my overall physical fitness, I feel less fatigue and seem to retain my form much better - definately one less thing to think about and if you see your opponent huffing and puffing or sweating it out that's just more confidence for you.

Just a thought.

Thanks lads for the advice. I don't know how i did it but despite a double on the third last hole i came back with a birdie and a solid par on the last to close out the match play final. Hopefully the major curse has been lifted partytime2.gif

Play practice rounds and visualize success in the close. Be a kid again.

In the US, every kid imagines they are in the bottom of the ninth with a 3-2 count and the bases loaded in the World Series
when we play.

Make it a game.

Any chance that lack of food or hydration is playing a role?
