Full Version: The Best Stock Headcovers. . .yes Headcovers!

Maybe I’ve had one too many Newcastes on a Friday but what are people’s choices for the best stock headcovers for OEM drivers and fairways.

I’d love to say that I truly don’t care but there is nothing more annoying than falling in love with that new driver or fairway wood, paying for that love, and the retailer reaches for a horrid (and cheap) headcover to accompany your new addition. One example I found particularly perplexing is the difference between Cobra and Titleist headcovers. I recently bought the Cobra S9-1 Pro (love the stick) and I get a nasty and uninspired headcover. Meanwhile, the comparable Titleist 909 fw headcovers are high tech things of beauty with substantially better craftsmanship. Why don’t the Cobra guys just walk across the street and say. . .hey, we’re going to use these headcovers in our famed black and gold. Yeah, I can (and do) buy aftermarket stuff to fit may needs but it’s a little disappointing when clubmakers just throw together junk headcovers for their high priced woods. P.S. – I’m not crazy about Callaway’s FT-iQ headcover either.

anything magnetic, period
TAG617
Agree, I hated the stock Cobra headcover. I replaced my driver and 3 wood with some knitted ones. Look nice, are way less bulkier and still functional.

best headcover ever= adams BTY

white and black , fairly stylish and magnetic

I was a big fan of TM's magnetic headcovers (r5 tp, r7 tp, etc.). I thought they looked very sharp, and the "vents" on the sides were a neat detail.

TM TP stuff is top notch, so is most of the titliest stuff. I am still partial to the titliest HCs with the red and black lines on the sock.
BladesOfSteel
Have to agree that the TM and Titleist stuff is top notch. The black and red socks on my 5-6 year old 980Fs are classics. Hey Cobra, how about a similar black and gold sock on your woods. Polished and classic. Thank me later for this no-brainer.

975D was my favorite cover of all time.
mikec222
the new titleists are too bulky and heavy. 983k was the best.

Ping's are brutal too, headcovers have to have a sock to protect the shaft, that's my only requirement.
naws-golfer
the adams bty headcovers remind me of the abombinable snowman fists, all white and jagged, yikes! (i used to have them)

My favorite OEM cover of all time is the Callaway Warbird headcover. Plush navy barrel with nice stitching! Awesome and I still have it on my Heavenwood to this day!
mulliginman
titleist 909

None of them.

Any decent OEM driver head cover is simply a sign on the bag that says "Steal Me".

I still have an old Stars & Stripes head cover for a 460 size head I got either from someone on GEA or Ham & Egg.

909 covers are beefy and well made, TM has nice ones too. The recent Callaway imix covers are the worst there is imo, very flimsy and the magnets do not work near as well as the Titty ones.

983k was the best.

The 975D is my favorite design, but of those that I have owned the 983K ranks #1 in my books.

Callaway Ft9 or Ft iq imix. Cobra L4v

Not -------- Callaway Ft non imix, Cobra s9, Nike

I kind of liked the L4V cover. Being magnetic was nice, and something about it just seemed "intimidating" if you kind of get what I'm saying.

The Adams 9015D was probably one of the ugliest covers I've seen. I played one for about 2 months and if it stuck around longer than that, I'll admit a new Rocket Tour or something was probably being purchased.

I found a lady on ebay that knited me a set of pommed headcovers, driver, 3 wood, and hybrid.

She let me pick the colors and they came out great.

So I change my vote from magnetic to knit biggrin.gif

Rocket Tour!

I love the titleist 906 fairway wood headcover, and the taylormade 2009 tp rescue.

I used to like the titleist 909 headcover, until my alignment sticks got into the small hole on the bottom of the headcover and scratched the top of my driver...
joeykent
This is the best headcover.

any TM megnetic headcovers and cally's ft-9 i-mix headcovers (all black with chrome side strips), and any titleist putter headcovers except detour.
Borthwick
I just bought a couple of TM burner clubs this past weekend. I don't care for those covers AT ALL! It's like trying to put size 9 socks on size 14 feet. I have GOT to find something different.

i loved my cleveland hibore xl tour cover til it broke

Amen to that.
Also, I don't like anything with magnetic closure. Reach in, grab your driver, your dragging an iron out with it.
And, I don't like animal headcovers. I don't care if Tiger has one or not.
Currently, I am using Club Glove headcovers. Have black and red on the driver, solid black on the 3wood. They match my Titleist staff bag, are easy on, easy off. Great headcovers.

Nickent anything...

I kid I kid.

Best headcover ever was the Cally FT-3 series. Great craftsmanship but also very sleek and sexy.

Another vote for 983k...Love the texture of the "basketball skin" on the top part of the hc.
DefConOne
perhaps a little off topic, but i use the generic black club glove head covers so no one can see what i have. perhaps i'm a bit paranoid. :-)

The Mizuno MX-700 cover is pretty nice, black and gold and it fits very well. I kinda like the bright white and red of the Cleveland Launcher cover too. I was very pleasantly surprised when I received my Wilson Staff Fybrid -- the headcover has a zipper. A zipper! It is so cool. And the soft black with white trim and lettering is very nice to look at. Plus, its well padded and soft. I agree that the Ft-iq is terrible.
deep18
best stock headcover ever was the 983 series titleist covers. fantastic, never should have gone away from the red/black/white socks.

Wow, what MEGA magnet headcover are you using?

Or you may want to check the swing weight on those irons, may be a little light.

I have NEVER had an iron stick to a magnetic headcover biggrin.gif

LOL do you take the badges off your car because they scream "Steal Me?"

If you give someone an opportunity to get to your bag I'm pretty sure they are not going to care what headcovers you have one.
