Well I am taking the plunge and getting married and for our honeymoon we are spending one week in oahu and one week in kauai. I've gotten the OK to play twice in Oahu and twice in Kauai. We have also done a really good job with money on the wedding so I pretty much can play wherever I want in hawaii as long as it's not pebble beach expensive.
What courses would you recommend for 2 rounds on both islands??
Thanks for the help

The Prince in Kaua'i is awesome, but was about $130 when I played it 8 years ago.

Poipu Bay on Kuaui is really nice, if you are staying at the Hyatt you can get a 3-day pass for $210, about 5 years ago; so it may be a little higher. I don't remember if they had a 2-day pass. the last 4 holes there are as nice as any in the world, the entire left side is the Pacific Ocean.
I played there twice on my honeymoon, and we went back about 5 years ago and I played 3 days, by the way the replay then was $25 so I played 6 rounds for less that $300.00

playing golf on ur honeymoon? i like that.
I'm going to oahu this weekend and i've heard good things about royal kuhia. From the website, green fees are in the $140 range. I sure hope its worth it. I've also played Ko' olina several years back and it was ok, but pricey.

There"s a deal called the Kauai challenge. The Prince, Poipu and Kauai lagoons for 325, it's a good deal except for Kauai Lagoons was only 18 holes and the lesser 18 at that. This was last February but I doubt they have reopened any of the other holes.

In Kauai, I would play Poipu Bay and the Prince. However, I would decide somewhat on where you were staying in Kauai. If you're in Lihue, I woudl play both Poipu and Prince. If I were on the North side, I would play the Prince twice and ditto for Poipu on the south side. Otherwise, too much time in the car and not on the beach or on your...ahem..."honeymoon.

What this guy said about Kauai. In fact exactly what he said.
I am fortunate enough to have a wife who plays so I did play those courses on my honeymoon.

the palmer course at turtle bay (oahu) is solid. not stunning 'hawaii' golf in my opinion, but a solid track. definitely worth if you're on the north shore, but a haul from honolulu.

Poipu Bay is a definate must play. The Prince would be my second course choice, but bring a lot of balls because the Prince is not an easy course. If you're on the Northshore side, the Makai course is also very nice. Kauai Lagoons is ok, they re-opened Kiele's 16, 17, and 18th holes. It's not much for scenery except for the 16th hole overlooking the ocean. Puakea is pretty crappy. Kiahuna is not worth playing either. Where you staying at?

I'm pretty positive that we are staying at the Illaki (spelling?) in Oahu and the princeville resort in Kauai. I was pretty sure I was going to play the prince but didn't have any other ideas. I like a challanging course but scenary is more important to me, especially since I don't have any scenary like this on the mainland and my wife to be will be driving the cart. Also, I am a 4.9 handicap.

Ko'Olau on Oahu is the 4th toughest course in the nation supposedly. I shot 80 from the tips on one of my better days. It's a nice course, play the normal tee's. There is some good elevation changes, lots of wide open fairways that call for all kinds of different shots to play. Long par 3's. Awesome views of the cliffs along Kaneohe Bay and there are some old Hawaiian "birthing" stones you can see off the 16th tee box. They have grooves for the girls legs and hand prints for the guys hands. Supposedly from friction from being used so much...
That's the course below the Pali highway overlook point.

I went to Kauai a couple months ago and had a great time. Poipu Bay is an absolute must. Great course that doesn't play terribly difficult. The clubhouse wall of fame in addition to the service makes it a must-play.
Prince is amazing, but if you want to shoot for score, I'd pass. Bring your shag bag balls and left that new box of Pro V's at home.
Kauai Lagoons was under construction when I went...the price if a bit high if you're not staying at the resort.
Believe it or not, the best deal on the island is Wailua GC...it hosted 3 USGA Amateur Public Links Championships and one of the highest rated muni courses in the country. INCREDIBLE value. The range is awful, the clubhouse service is...ehhhh. The course is great...some greenside bunkers will be taller than you. fun.

Hmmm, seems odd... Most men don't take up golf until AFTER the honeymoon is over

Congrats, and enjoy :-)

I'm guessing your honeymoon is not for a few more months? The Princeville Resort is under heavy renovation and supposed to be reopening in November, as a St.Regis Hotel...it'll be ridiculously nice. They're fixing up the Princeville Makai course too. So since you're staying out there, you should play Princeville Prince and the 27-hole Makai course! I'm sure you'll be doing a lot of sight-seeing, so if you hit the Poipu area, you may as well play Poipu Bay.
send me a pm if you wanna know anything else...i live here so i can answer any other questions you have about the island.

If you have any way to get on the military bases on Oahu, take advantage of it. We just got back from Oahu in July and the Klipper at MCB Kaneohe and Mamala Bay at Hickam AFB are excellent course for around $25 each. Also played both courses at Turtle Bay. The Palmer is solid and is in great condition. The Fazio is OK, if not a typical resort course. Kind of $$$ though ($100-$150).

The klipper is a great course for the price. They have a great hole right along the ocean. I wasn't sure if you could get on or not, so I didn't mention it.

Since you are already up in Princeville, I would recommend the two courses there. Makai and Prince. Yes, Prince is very difficult, especially if the wind is up. But it's spectacular. Must play. Try to book it as early as possible. Less wind, plus you'll finish up and have the afternoon for beach, pool, hike along Na Pali coast (must do!) and of course honeymoon stuff.
We stayed at Princeville and drove down to Poipu one day. It's a long drive; you should decide whether it's worth it.
Enjoy!

klipper has a few holes as good as any, rest of course ok. has to be best in nation for the money. koolau as mentioned above is my all time fav. for beauty. many holes are just jaw dropping beautiful, ive played there 3 different times and cant imagine another course having as many beautiful holes and ive played alot of nice tracks. i stayed at turtle bay while the SBS ladies were there and their courses are very nice, but not as senic as koolau.
