2009 Majors
Masters- 80-75-MC
US Open- 77-79- MC
British Open - WD
PGA - 80

What happened to this guy? If you count a 75 at Augusta as a competitive round, that would be his only competitive round in a major all year. Is he or did he battle something to go from US Open champ in 2005 to a wasted spot at a major?

I think that his US Open win, quite frankly, was a fluke. Granted he has talent, not saying he doesn't...but he wasn't much of a player before he won, a total shocker when he did and back off the face of the earth after he won.......I say Fluke.....

I've watched/read a couple things about him and his game. He says he's always battled the extreme highs and lows when it comes to his golf game. He said it's not because of his mental state (he doesn't get really disappointed when he's on a downward trend). He just accepts where he's at at the current time and works hard to get better. Pretty interesting really to think that someone with that much potential can fall into pits where he's shooting in the 80's with some regularity. But I'm with you guys here - not sure if he is really a legitimate, sustainable talent on the tour = fluke at the Open. I really like the guy though, and wish him luck.

What about his shoulder injuries?

Not been truly fit for a while so some slack might be due here....

Being fair... his US Open was no fluke.... Prior to his win I remember seeing him having good rounds in majors but he was unable to put together a great tournament in the majors. He actually had a really impressive run at the majors in 2005. He only played in the last 3 and his other finishes were T5 and T6. Paul Lawrie = Fluke as he has 0 top 10s since in any major.
I was following Tiger on the Tuesday practice round at Bethpage, saw him Campbell come by as I was on the 12th hole and he was on the 6th tee... NOBODY was following him, I found that odd being that he won the tournament only 4 years prior---- maybe because it was 7:30 am

Has he had shoulder injuries?

he was on tv here about 2months ago on PGA Golf show on fox sports hosted by Brett Ogle. http://www.foxsports.com.au/shows/golfshow.
Summing up his appearance on the show he is still working on his game and said his driver has really been letting him down the most.

Those scores in the majors seem to be well beyond a driver problem!

A fluke?

Wasn't he one of the best, most consistent players on the European Tour for about five years before his US Open win?

That would be like saying Jim Furyk's win was a fluke.
spooky
He does seem to be either extremely good or extremely bad, but the good times seem to be further and further apart. I seem to remember him having a good run at The Open relatively early in his career.

He played very well at St Andrews in '95 and was hailed as the next best thing after three or four wins on the Challenge Tour the preceding season. Only a bit of shaky play on Sunday and a bit of inexperience stopped him from, potentially, achieving a massive win early in his career.

His win tally is respectable, but injuries and some persistent poor form have put a big dent in his fortunes of late.

His swing always looks a bit high maintenance to me; and his confidence seems to be easily knocked when things aren't going well. He's very much a player who gets stuck in a rut, sadly, and he's well and truly in one at the moment.

Could be that his imminent relocation back home could maybe help his game out the position it's in now.
