At the time of posting this there are 12 topics on the 1st page of the general golf discussion page about or including Tiger and I await the barrage with great anticipation.

Is there anyone here that longs for or at least would enjoy some discussions about Arnie, Jack, Player Miller, Merry Mex, Irwin, Norman, Watson, Faldo, Couples, DLIII…….. you know, others have entertained and played this game fairly well too.

These guys never got press about farting.

Just wondering what others think.

Half of the membership here is under 25. They barely have heard of Jack or Arnie or the Merrry Mex, and they certainly haven't seen them play.

Wanna talk about Jack, go for it. I'm 40, and besides 1986, I can only remember a few of his shots of his career, and I think I "remember" most of them because of the Golf Channel replays. So what's to talk about?

I guess I'm not getting your point. You expect people to NOT talk about Tiger, during the week of a major, after he won the last 2 tournaments?

If you want to take a history class go ahead. Forums are typically a place to discuss what is current, and Tiger is current. Not to say that those other players aren't significant, just that there is nothing new to discuss about them.

I get what the OP is trying to say, but it's kind of like asking the news to talk about stories from 15 (or more) years ago instead of what's actually making the news today. The reason Tiger gets so much talk on this forum is because he's current, like Richie18 said.

And besides that - there was a fraction of this kind of talk when Tiger was out for 8 months with the knee surgery - not much to talk about when the guys not out there each week. Could have taken advantage of the Tiger drought when you had the chance. rolleyes.gif

Well I don't like Nicklaus's or Trevino's odds of winning the PGA being that they are not in it.... rolleyes.gif

Seriously there have been some great historical threads on this site over the years, they just tend to lose steam after a couple of days, obviously the internet did not exist during these guys prime and most people like to talk about what is current, if you have a good topic in mind start a thread and let's see where it goes.

Here is a recent topic that seemed to die pretty quickly that I thought would have some legs, try posting in it and see if you can get the ball rolling.

Tiger Woods has a way of permeating any thread on the site. It's inevitable. Start a topic about what you had for breakfast before Today's 18 and someone, before too long, will figure out a way to get Tiger Woods into any subsequent discussion. What new set of irons should I buy? Someone will base their advice on what Tiger's hitting. What ball should I be using? 'Ive no idea what you should be using, but Tiger uses...' And so on.

It's a nice idea, but it's off to a non-starter.

The swing part of the forum can often be dominated by discussions about Hogan, which can get quite heated - although not as heated as any thread there that might dare to say anything not 100% positive about Woods' swing. It is odd how fervent some are about Woods being beyond criticism, although it might have something to do with the age of those posting?

I also saw some excellent threads with WITB pictures from years gone by - those threads were fascinating to me.

Oh, and don't count Trevino out just yet - I'm sure I heard he has a new ball that gave him an extra 30 yards?

Can anyone confirm the statement that half of the members on this forum are under 25?

I’m not trying to make a point and, yes, I fully expect people to talk about Tiger. Just trying to understand some things about this site. I’m only 46 myself but have been playing since the age of 5 and actually following golf since the age of 8 so guess I’m lucky to actually remember these guys. Sorry to waste bandwidth……. If the above statement is correct, most of my questions have been answered. Thanks.

Why not start a thread about them here and there. If there's response and discussion then you can join in. If not, well start another Tiger thread.

Isn't it ironic how a thread started in the hopes of not being about Tiger, ends up being about Tiger?
