My parents are considering buying a condo in the Phoniex area. They are not golfers themselves, but would like to purchase one on or very near to a golf course. Obviously this is good news for me smile.gif. They are also open to suggestions on location by me.

I live in Canada, so I don't for see many summer trips to this condo, but likely a 2 week stint every winter. Thus I will be paying high season green fees. Can you recommend some nice areas in the Phoneix area that have good access to affordable, good value golf courses near? One area they are considering is Fountain Hills (is there decent golf there?), so anything comparable to this would be an option.

Thanks
Jay

How about you get a place in scottsdale. Then buy an Arizona 2'some card from Troon Golf. You can play Troon North with that card for very reasonable rates.

Thanks for the tip. That looks like a decent deal. Any other options?

We Ko Pah is nice - I only played the Saguaro course. It is more reasonable than many top courses.

It's going to be hard to find good golf prices in winter months. The other thing I've noticed is the good courses are pretty well spread out, and some are in questionable neighborhoods. I would think that if you stayed centrally located, Maybe Tempe area you would have easy access to Phoenix, Chandler, Gilbert and even points sounth like Marana (home of accenture match play) Maricopa, and Tucson.

The other good golfing area is way north of Phoenix/Scottsdale, where the pro's play. There are a lot of courses up there, and more senior living areas too.

I live in Scottsdale and agree with the suggestion about the Troon card (assuming you will play enough to make it pay).

But Scottsdale courses are generally the most expensive in the area. The less expensive courses are in the West Valley and in the southeast valley. If, for example, you go to the troon golf web site and look up the troon card rates you will see the rate disparity.

You can walk the TPC champions course all winter long for 43 bucks best value out here for winter golf. Outside of that troon card or the Wekopa Wekopass, golfnow will get you good deals but expect to pay 50 bucks for mediocre golf unless you want to drive to the outskirts of town.
