what tournament wins would you like to have on your resume?
here are the rules:
1. you can only pick one major (i doubt anybody will pick the pga, so you're basically selecting one from the open, the u.s. open and the masters)
2. i surmise the players would be on almost all the lists, so let's eliminate that one from consideration to avoid mass duplication.
3. no wgc events
3. other than the three considerations set forth above, any pga or european tour events are eligible to be selected.
note: if you want to offer a brief blurb about why you've chosen a particular tourney this thread will likely be more interesting.
note #2: one thing that became apparent to me as i pondered this question is that in the age of tiger's majors quest, regular events don't seemingly carry the same cache they once did. there used to be some top shelf non-major tournaments, but with the emphasis on majors and with all the tourney name changes (sponsor turn over, etc.), non-majors - in terms of clout - seem more closely bundled than they once did.

You should set this up as a poll?

1. us open - my favorite major...preferably at oakmont.
2. memorial - jack's event, and since i can't take the WGC bridgestone, i figured i'd take the next closest event to NE ohio.
3. quail hollow - green mile...great course, great field, great purse.
4. tour champ - historic course and you have to earn your way in.
5. Whatever they call it now at Colonial - just because i've always loved the place and admire the hell out of hogan.

After a lot of mulling, I'll plump for an Open Championship over a Green Jacket. It's a very tough choice but I'd narrowly go for the former. If I can also have the luxury of choosing the venue, I'd like to win it at Turnberry please. By a couple of shots over a couple of big names after a thrilling back 9 run by the three of us where the lead changed hands a couple or three times. Sort of a Duel in The Sun II.
I'd also like to have won a World Matchplay title (not the WGC one; the old Wentworth event) as it was a tournament I always held in high esteem when it was a part of the golfing calendar. The list of winners is a who's who of golf and I'd love to have my name on the trophy and be able to say that, nominally at least, I was the best matchplayer in the world that particular year. A classic tussle with a big-name player where I won on the 36th with the pair of us about 15 under the card would be ideal. Basically a re-run of 1989 with me playing the part of Faldo. I've always loved matchplay, have played a lot of it in my time, and would feel unfulfilled without a big matchplay win on my resume.
Other than those two, I'll take a PGA Championship (the Wentworth version) as it's the flagship event of my 'home' tour and a Memorial title as it's a course that I love and an event that I have always regarded as one of the premier tournaments on the PGA Tour. A photograph of me getting a trophy from Jack Nicklaus would also make a nice backdrop for the Claret Jug on my mantlepiece.
Fifth one? Hmm. I've played a lot of team golf in my time and have always loved that side of golf, so a team event would be something I'd like to win. The Ryder Cup would be an obvious choice, and to have a 5/5 winning record during a home-venue Ryder Cup would probably stack up against an individual tournament win for me. If I'm not allowed that, then I'll plump for winning the old Dunhill Cup (another event no longer with us) at St Andrews - with me shooting the course record in the process. Lifting a trophy at the Home of Golf, with a couple of good mates and whilst wearing your national colours would take some beating. A photo of the three of us with the trophy and on the Swilcan Bridge would make another nice photograph for the wall, to look at whilst I'm watching the telly - or having a glass of something and telling the grandkids how 'once upon a time I was reasonable golfer you know. Now sit back and prepare to be bored senseless by your old grandpa since your mum and dad won't be back from the shops for at least a couple of hours...'

Masters, Memorial, Quail Hollow, Colonial, Verizon. I didn't include any playoff events and if I could pick just one WGC event it would be the Match Play.

1) the US open: My favorite major, and a great test of golf vs the other players and the course as well.
2) the BMW PGA (europe tour): One of the flagship events of the euro tour, and gets pretty much every top non-US player
3) The Dubai Desert classic: Gets a ton of top pros including Tiger almost every year, and is sure to get bigger over the years
4) the Wachovia, Quail Hollow: Probably gets the american best field of any non WGC/major. Plus a great course
5) The tour championship: nice course, plus if you win there's a chance you get the fedex cup, which is obviously a nice career boost

1) Masters for my major, because I'll get to play every year until I'm 60.) Bobby Jones' mastermind
2) Memorial, Jack's Tourney 'nuff said
3) AT&T at Congressional, Tiger's Tourney plus it's on a major venue course
4) Bay Hill, Arnie's Tournament,
5) Colonial, Hogan's Tournament.
It would be great to win the 'Mount Rushmore' of American golf's tournaments.

The Open (the one held in the UK, see other thread for further name debate) confers a return invite to the winner every year until 60, or 10 years, whichever is longer. Used to be 65, and before that, for life. May be where Augusta got the idea.

Glad to see such props for my hometown tournament.
Mine would be:
The Masters
The Colonial National Invitational Tournament
Byron Nelson Classic
Texas Open
Houston Open
I'd be the first golfer in history to win all the Texas events.
In reality, I'd probably trade Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio to win at Riveria, Saw Grass, and Pebble.
