Anyone ever play in the PGA Pro-Am? How did you go about getting to play in it?

I've caddied in several. Tournament sponsors get spots, I know.

You have to pay usually unless you're a sponsor. I played in one with my dad and I believe it was around $5,000 for the each of us or so, the money goes to charity.

if you got the cash, you can play.

Here is one at the Wyndam.

$20k for a team of three

I worked for the Tour Championship in Atlanta a few years back. And yes some are negotiated into sponsor' packages but we still sold some on the side. Contact the Tournaments Director and they can get you the information. It is not cheap, at Eastlake it was $12-15K.

I played this year and had a blast.

I'd suggest that if you're wanting to play in one, right now is a good time to do so. The going rate for pro-am spots at our event this year were about half of what they've been in years past. I know several PGA events have had to cancel pro-am's due to not being able to sell spots.

If you've got the cash and always wanted to do it, I'd suggest that now is the perfect time to do so.

I played in the pro-am at the Colonial many years ago. I received an invitation to play because of a business relationship with the tournament sponsor.

I haven't played in a PGA tour Pro-Am yet but have played in a few Nationwide Tour Pro-Ams, awesome experience.

So who did you guys play with? What's the atmosphere like? Are you playing for anything? Is it serious golf or are people picking up, gimmies, etc?

Judging from what I see at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, it's serious golf up until your pro team mate scores better than you in your best ball effort -- then people tend to pick up. But no gimmies if your net score will count.

I don't know if it's the same elsewhere.
