Hominy Hill
http://www.monmouthcountyparks.com/page.as...129&Id=2582 or Charleston Springs
http://www.monmouthcountyparks.com/page.as...129&ID=2580Both of these courses are Monmouth County Public Courses. Hominy Hill has the reputation and the buzz - Charleston has 2 nice courses- the North is my favorite - Links Style.
Will fit you budget - will be about 45 min drive.

The Architects Club in Phillipsburg NJ is a nice track. The course has an interesting concept. Each hole is named after a famous course designer (D. Ross, Tillinghast, etc) and tries to mimic that designers style. I take customer's out there for outings. Its close to PA so it may be on the edge of your range for the day though.
http://www.thearchitectsclub.comA more centrally located option would be Royce Brook Golf Club. That course is located in Hillsborough and is closer to you. Also a nice track. Tough course to play if the wind is blowing.

i would say these three would be good choices... all within your budget and ranked well.
1) Ballyowen: Links-style course that would be about 1 hour from the Meadowlands. One of the better ranked public courses in NJ.
2) Neshanic: Another highly ranked public course (top ten public course in NJ by Golf Digest). Great practice facility. About 1 hour from the Meadowlands.
3) Knoll West: A semi-private course that is only about 20 minutes from the Meadowlands. Was ranked the best "muni" in NJ in this month's issue of Golf Digest.
PM me if you have any questions. I work a stones throw away from the Meadowlands and play a lot of the courses in the area.

if you want to go to a good golf store, check out golf galaxy on route 17. its about 15 minutes from the meadowlands. ask for Joe, the store manager. he knows his stuff and always has hooked me up.

If you are thinking of going to Crystal Springs, do not play the actual Crystal Springs course unless you enjoy tricked up blind shots. I played there once and did not enjoy my round. I must say that Ballyowen has a superb reputation although I have never played there.

Actually, ask for Tim.
And a third vote for Ballyowen...and over Crystal Springs.

Simple formula for Northern NJ Golf:
Ballyowen > Wild Turkey > Crystal Springs > Black Bear = Enjoy Ballyowen
