Headed there for a conference for four days. Any advice to where to play? Company is paying so price isn't a concern. Thanks.

Thanks. I think I'm going to make the drive and play Sand Creek Station that seems to be pretty popular.

Played it last year, front 9 is combination of links style and woods, very cool. Back nine is more target golf on running thru partially developed subdivision, few trees, none mature, fairly wide open. Fun course overall.

I have a brother in Wichita and have to say I wish he lived somewhere else. If ever there was a place to not bring your clubs, its Wichita. The only thing they have going is Flint Hills. Its a national and pretty much untouchable. He works for airbus and mostly the guys there play horrible munis but could afford expensive clubs and high end publics but there arent any. You should drive over to manhattan. theyve got great courses in the area.

Another option is (if you have the time) drive to Lawrence and play Alvamar. Played several tournaments on the public side in college. Great golf course...

Auburn Hills. and Tall Grass. I played tall grass for state golf meet this year. Cottonwood Hills is a great course. I haven't played Sand Creek but have heard great things. Prarie Dunes is another option. If you want to go to nickerson then The highlands is a fantastic course.

not true.
Play
Sand Creek Station just north of Wichita (about 15 minutes) located in Newton. It is a fun course with some nasty rough.
Even better (as others have mentioned) would be
Cottonwood Hills located in Hutchinson, which is about 30 minutes straight west of Newton (and is a Nick Faldo design, not Tom Fazio). Easily one of the best courses in the area. Tough yet a blast to play.

Thanks for the info. I'll at least play Sand Creek Station. Also, one day I think I'm scheduled to play Crestview Country Club. Anyone hear much about that track?

Crestview is nice, 36 holes designed by Robert Trent Jones. Also I havnt played there in a few years but Terradyne used to be a great course, located on the edge of town, in Andover. Try Willowbend, a Weiskopf course, I think both of these are still semi private, also Tallgrass may let you on not being a memeber if you call but they used to be private, good course though. I have also heard good things about Auburn Hills.

I couldn't disagree more, what a snobish statement, true it's not Monteray California, but some of the best golf for the buck you will ever find, especially if you know where to look.

Wichita has plenty of good courses around the area.
Go to Sand Creek Station.
Auburn Hills is on the west side of town. Plenty challenging. Perry Dye designed.
Cottonwood Hills is awesome, but a 45 minute drive. Easily one of the best in the State if you have time.
Tallgrass and Terradyne are private country clubs, but call and give it a shot.
Willowbend is private, non-club. You can probably call and get on.
Crestview is where the Nationwide event is played. There are 36 holes out there.
Reflection Ridge is where the Nationwide event used to be played. Private, but similar to Willowbend.
If you can swing another 45 minute drive then head down to Quail Ridge in Winfield.
I could go on...

Wichita CC was a pleasant surprise...Flint Hills is okay. Prairie Dunes is only an hour away and it's world class.

I certainly didnt intend to be a snob. Heres my thoughts...Wichita/Andover are INCREDIBLE communities (Especially post Tiller). They have GREAT people (post Tiller), and an awesome climate. My opinion is simply that they have not ever caught the golf bug to the extreme that other areas similar in economy and climate have.

Yes, try Crestview as well. The Nationwide plays there and it's a nice course as well. It would also be a little closer for you than Sand Creek or Cottonwood Hills. Let us know how it goes!
