Alan Shepard was the first American in space (1961). He was also the 5th man on the moon (Apollo 14 in 1971) and before getting back in the lunar module after his moonwalk, Shepard demonstrated his golf swing for the TV audience, sending a golf ball sailing in slow motion into the sky. He said he got the idea when he saw Bob Hope carrying a golf club on a tour of the space center.
