Are you kidding me, Tom Watson!!! He must be 60 now. I know, it's day 1, not interested in 'there's still a lot of golf to be played', etc.,. How great is it to see the greatest Open Championship player of the modern era at the top of the leaderboard, even if it's only for a day. Watson on the leaderboard on Sunday would dwarf Norman's resurgence last year. Not in the media, of course, just with people who actually know the game and appreciate golf history, and remember that there was a TW before the cureent and reigning TW.
I grew up a HUGE Watson fan, 1) Cause I liked him and 2) My Dad was a Jack guy, so I rooted hard for the young guy to beat 'the man'. I will be watching every minute after work tonight, I'm actually pissed at myself for checking scores over my morning coffee.

It's great to see Watson up there!!!
TW is trying to hit it too hard off the tee leading to wayward stingers.

GO TOM!

I was just watching the '77 British Open vs Nicklaus the other night on GC, what an AMAZING round of golf and sportsmanship from both men. Classic golf right there...

watson is no where near 60...he is 59.
i don't understand why someone his age and with his experience can't play well or why we should be surprised when they do.

It was an amazing display by two of golf's finest......neither would give and they simply left the field in their wake. If memory serves me correctly Hubert Green finished third and was about ten shots back.

I don't think it is fair that Watson and the seniors get to play from forward tees.

Tom Watson has always been my favorite player, so I hope he keeps it up. I don't think he will fade because he is a great foul weather player, and we all know how the weathers supposed to be this weekend.

Interesting that at 59 his driving average is 299, 11 yards higher than the field average at the moment. The field average will change im sure as the day goes on.
