I'm heading to Chicago with 3 other guys from my club and we were looking to get a Saturday afternoon round in at Coghill, either at Ravines, or Dubsdread.

Anyone played there? I have a couple questions:

  • Any thoughts on the courses? Which is better...etc?
  • Anyone use the Caddy service? Never had a caddy before so any thoughts on getting one appreciated

Thanks,

I had a tee time there for years and both are good. They just redid Dubsdread last year and it's beautiful and challenging. Carries a $150 price tag though. Ravines is half the price, not quite as challenging, but alot of fun. Caddie service is all kids who work there. Depending who you get, it's hit or miss.

Hope this helps.

The recent remodel job (done by the "US Open doctor", Rees Jones) has made Dubsdread the most difficult course in Chicago, IMO. It's hard to describe how frustrating the bunkering is now. It's a world-class course, and a terrific value, but if you've got anyone who's not a single-digit handicap in your group, I'd recommend leaving it alone. It's not the place for a casual round of golf, and I think your Saturday afternoon round could stretch into the 5-hour+ range.

Ravines is a really fun course with a good number of birdie opportunities for any golfer. It's not maintained as pristinely as Dubs, and holes #1 and 2 are pretty boring. Both courses run past a halfway house that serves draft beer and one of the best hot dogs in Chicago. Can't beat that.

played Ravines back in October and it was okay, paid like $35 after 1pm or something like that.....and it plays like a $35 course. +1 on the halfway house, got a couple draft beers for the back.
