I carry a Moleskine notebook in my back pocket when I play. In it, I have notes on the yardages I hit each club and any swing thoughts I am currently working on.
One of my playing partners claims that having a book with tips to myself is against the rules on advice. I told him he is full of *!@#. I then handed him the rules of golf book so he could show me which rule I was violating. He could not find any, but I just wanted to confirm.
I am not breaking a rule by having notes to myself, am I?
Thanks in advance.

You are not breaking any Rules by doing this - you can bring anything in writing you like to the course, and if you have recorded swing tips from your pro on an Ipod, you can bring that too.
As long as the material is published or made before before the round, it's allowed.
It may be considered rude to listen to an Ipod during the round, but it's not a breach of the Rules.

Not break any rules at all, I forget who, but a tour pro has some Bob Rotella mental tips taped to his bag.

Even more than that: As Dave Pelz points out, it's perfectly legal to have the yardages of each club taped to the shaft of each of them.
