Not sure if this will be of interest to anyone, but I had a great time at the John Deere classic yesterday. I took my 5 year Son to his first tournament and he had a blast. I was worried about him making noise and being loud, but it was amazing how quick he caught on.
The John Deere is great to go to on Thursday as the crowd levels weren't too big. My 5 year old talked to many players while they were waiting to hit tee shots and most of the Players could not have been better with him. They carried on full conversations even with him. There were a few who I could tell were concentrating so much on their round they were oblivious to their surroundings, but that is to be expected.
My Son got 3 golf balls, one from Chez Reavie, one from Nicholas Thompson's caddie and one from a Srixon staffer (younger player; I can't remember who as it was when he was passing from hole 9 to hole 10 quickly. (I will try to post pics of the golf balls tonight as they have some cool markings on them). One interesting thing is Thompson's caddie gave him a titleist pro v1 and Thompson was playing all Callaway clubs.
I have been to many PGA tour events, but never noticed how they treat young kids. My experience yesterday was that they all treat young kids really well even while grinding in a PGA tour event.
My Son's favorite player is now obviously Chez Reavie and all my 5 year old wants to do now is play golf, which is fine with me!!!
It is actually a pretty fun field this week even before the British...we saw Kenny Perry, Chad Campbell, David Duval, Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson, Davis Love III, David Toms, Tom Lehman and Danny Lee to name a few.
Anyway for what it's worth...We had a blast!

Did you see Mike Van Sixty (Sickle)? He's a hellofa player, amateur from Marquette. He actually had it to -4 yesterday through 12 but stumbled to finish -1.

We didn't see him, but there were a lot of midwest players that had large followings including Zach Johnson (Iowa), Stricker (Wisconsin), Todd Hamilton (Illinois).
A couple other things...we did see the I15 headcovers at the range. Chad Campbell had a sweet cameron buttonback in play.

I went yesterday as well, had a blast. Like you said, if you plan ahead, you can get up close to anything you want to see. Could see for sure that Jeff Maggert was playing the new i15 driver with a Ping branded shaft. Calc had a g15 headcover but did not see what was underneath. He also had two 15 series hybrid headcovers, don't remember if they said i or g, but did not see what was underneath them either. All in all a great time.

Deere Run is a great place to see a tour event. The back nine has several sites which allow multiple hole viewing angles. The absence of any residential development, part of the original covenant, is also a huge benefit.
We are very lucky in the QC area to have Deere here to support a PGA Tour event.

Awesome to see some guys from the QC on the boards, and I'll give the thumbs up too. The John Deere TPC and Deere Classic is a great tournament and its great to see more top money players come to the tournament each year.

Out of curiousity, what is the fee to play Deere Run. Am I correct to assume that it is a daily- fee course? I go to the central Illinois area a fair bit and it would be neat to take a day trip to play it. FWIW, there are a bunch of good to above average courses 30 mins away in the Pekin-Peoria area...
God Bless

We usually go to that tournament every year. I grew up in the QC (Bettendorf) and have played that course a few times. John Deere does a great job with that event.

Those are some pretty good prices for a course that hosts a PGA tour event. If I lived there I would play there alot.

Its to bad we couldn't of had the weather Wednesday that we had Thursday as I was one of those unlucky pro-am participants. Major bummer!
Sounds like a great day with your son! Unfortunately or fortunately you may have created a monster. He'll be on here in 6 or 7 years spending every dime he has on equipment!
We're lucky to have that course in the area. Looks like the new course Fyre Lake National? will be a good addition.
