4 guys, 3 days, lots of golf. We are from the Birmingham Al area and want to play some fun courses. We are thinking about Myrtle Beach because there are so many courses to play. We want to play alot in our time frame but not break the bank. What would you do? Thanks

Myrtle Beach is good.
Whistling Straits is GREAT. So is Kiawah Island.
Later in the year (i.e.: not summer) I'd look at Scottsdale, or Palm Springs / Indian Wells

Obviously depends on where you are coming from, but what about the RTJ golf trail?
Also agree with the post above.

Check out Myrtle Beach or Bear Trace which I think is in Tennessee somewhere? They have 4 or 5 different courses close to each other I believe and I have heard good things and both locations offer reasonably priced golf during the summer. Scottsdale, Hawaii, Vegas, Kohler are all going to be very pricey if you go during peak season, of course if you go in the middle of summer to Scottsdale or Vegas you can find some pretty cheap golf, just prepare to play in 100+ degree temps, I did this once in Vegas and swore I would never do it again even if the golf was free, way too hot. There are plenty of great places in FL to which is not far from you. Orlando has a lot of great courses as does Tampa.

Hands down Myrtle Beach. Best place on earth for a guy trip IMO. Love MB.

You could always jump on I-20 and head to Reynolds Plantation. There are a ton of good courses in that area.

The OP says he doesn't want to break the bank, and has received the very helpful suggestions of Whistling Straits, Kiawah, and Cabo. Why not suggest Pebble or Hawaii for an inexpensive outing?
I'd recommend MB, like a couple of others have. Something to fit most every budget.

Williamsburg, VA has some really good tracks as does Ocean City, MD and both are very reasonably priced.

Or how about every single person recommend the same destination? That would be helpful too.
I suggested Whistling Straits and Kiawah knowing that they are not cheap and on the assumption that the OP is capable of deciding on his own if they fit his budget.

I think Williamsburg is an underrated destination. Kingsmill and Golden Hoseshoe are both great tracks.

Great idea, but why choose?.
Suite at The Lodge, play Pebble, find someone to get you on Spyglass, then up to SFO and fly first class to the Islands.

I just went here in March and it was really nice. Like a giant apt complex on a great golf resort. You get your own apartment with kitchen and everything. We drank on the balcony or the pub every night and played golf all day. You never need to leave except for a beer run to costco which is only 2 miles away.

I agree. I'm actually going to Kingsmill this weekend for a family vacation (Busch Gardens, Watercountry USA and Colonial) and hope to get out on one of the courses in the afternoon.
I'm a big fan of Williamsburg National (old course) and Brickshire. Kiskiak was ok and while some rave about it, I absolutely hated Royal New Kent. I thought it was extremely tricked up (holes and greens) and quickly got tired of blind shot after blind shot.

If you are willing to stop by Colorado for something a little different, you need to check out Mariana Butte, Dear Dance, and Castle Pines.....the most mountainous and beautiful course EVER! but I grew up with the rockies and enjoy the views when I go hunting, and the foresty atmosphere brings a little bit of the season into my golf game...it's great

You might want to working on your reading comprehension. The guy specifically asked for recommendations that don't break the bank. If WS and Kiawah don't break his budget, he wouldn't have bothered to include that comment.

How 'bout the World Golf Village outside of St Augustine. Complex houses the World Golf Hall of Fame as well as terrific golf courses. Not far at all to the Atlantic beaches either. Any "Man Golf Trip" should include a beach with hot chicks.

Not just because I live here, but maybe plan a trip to where you cant play at other times of the year? Fly into Minneapolis and then a 2 hr drive up to the Brainerd lakes area. There are a host of extremely nice courses that are reasonably priced. (certainly WAY less than others mentioned).
The Classic At Maddens, Deacons Lodge, The Preserve, The Pines are all close. Also within a pretty short distance are Giants Ridge and The Quarry. The Wilderness at Fortune Bay is a bit further up, but amazingly pretty.
I've played almost all that have been mentioned in this post, and those I threw out there rank right up there. MAybe not Whistling, or Pebble, or Kapalua, but 1/4 the price tag!
Good luck and have fun no matter where you end up.

4 guys, 3 days, man trip. It's not going to be all about golf. You're in Birmingham; I am in Dothan. To make a good trip, I would suggest Panama City and Destin. Play at Bay Pointe, Cross Creek, and Kelly Plantation. Spend your nights at La Vela, Spinnaker, or Schooners. You got good golf and a good night life. And it wouldn't be that bad of a drive.
If you do decide on PC and Destin, pick me up on the way...

+1 on that.
The King & Bear is awesome course, stay there (nice condos available cheap), Slammer Squire is very nice layout as well.
You are only 30 mins max from JAX and Ponte Vedre, so stay at Sawgrass one night. St Augustine is like 15 mins to beach.

I go to Destin with a bunch of guys every year. We stay in the Guest House at Emerald Bay and we pretty much get the run of the place. Pretty easy drive from Bham.

I do think the courses are nice, but
way overpriced. There are better courses in the area for half the price. Not to mention that the WGV looks like an unfinished project. The Caddyshack themed restaurant is mediocre at best and half of the stores are empty.
BTW, another option that would be relatively inexpensive would be Atlantic City. Very good golf, beach and casinos. Flights are easy out of Philly or even Atlantic City Int'l.

Just got back from Reunion golf resort in Kissimee. Three very nice courses and plenty of courses in the area such as Southern Dunes. I rented an eight bedroom house for all my family and had pool. Free water park for families in the resort. Eight bedroom house was $3700 for week. Three bedroom condo for other family members was $1400 for week. They let us play for cart fees of $32 (greens fee normally $107). I think current golf package is $199 per person per day with housing, with unlimited golf and grass practice range. Resort and housing was top notch. Works well for families also with very nice free water park and several exits on Rt 4 from all Disney parks. I would recommend Reunion highly.
