WRXers:

I'll be spending a week in Myrtle Beach (for the first time ever) at the end of the month and am looking for recommendations in the Surfside area.

I know Caledonia and True Blue are fantastic. We'd be willing to drive the 20 minutes or so out of town (I think) but are looking for closer choices.

Looking for an enjoyable layout at a decent price. Isn't everyone?

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Gonna be there tonight. I got time for one round. Caledonia is the only way to go. Willbrook, tradition and river club are nice but are hit or miss on conditions. I'll post again.

Just got back from Surfside last week. Played Willbrook Plantation and Heritage Club. Both in great shape and beautiful courses. Staff at Heritage Club was outstanding. Call the course for special rates. Summer is off season and the economy has business way off. Avoid Wicked Sticks: overbooked tee times and marshals are a hassle if you get even a little behind.

I just got back from Myrtle also. I played Sandpiper Bay, Farmstead Links, and TPC Myrtle, all three were in great shape, can't go wrong with any of them.

DCott - how was the TPC course? I was there last year and they were still trying to get the greens recovered after they ran into the problem (fungus??) a couple years ago and lost most of the greens. It was a great layout - would be nice to hear they are coming back nicely.

Play the International Club, great deals right now and an outstanding layout.

I enjoy playing Indio Creek each time I'm in Myrtle Beach, but I also recommend Indian Wells as another course that is reasonably priced and fun to play. These are close to each other near Surfside/Murrells Inlet.

Greens were solid, seemed like there was alot of sand everywhere, though.

Also some general advice: This is not Myrtle Beach's peak season, so there is really no need to book your tee times in advance. Most places aren't filling and give "48 hour discounts" to those who call within 48 hours of their tee time. My foursome saved $80 at TPC by not booking ahead.

In the south try Wachesaw East, TPC, Prestwick, CaldoniaSP?, True Blue, Pawleys Plantations and if you want to drive just a bit try Shaftsberry Glen.

Go to www.myrtlebeachgolfdesk.com you can get some great pricing and if you call ask for Brian he is the best when it comes to myrtle Golf.

Avocet at Wild Wing is very good. Myrtle Beach National King's North course is a classic Palmer design that is also great. You might also try out the Barefoot courses (Norman, Fazio, Love III, Dye)
