I am planning a trip to Miami first week of August and looking to play a round at Doral. Does anyone know the current course conditions? Also, is the Blue Monster worth the extra $90 over the Great White? Any inputs on either course would be greatly appreciated.

The great white is a course like I had never played. I enjoyed it. It was worth the chance to play it once or twice. The Blue Monster is just a whole lot more. At least do it once since you are making the trip. I went in August too, actually, and both were very lush.

Most courses at doral are in good condition specially those two
I played them within the last month and were good. Greens were fast even with the rain Check for rate specials. Are you with a group or a single? The great white is totally different because of the coquina but it's less expansive, kind of bunched but open

I used to live about 30 miles North of Doral in Broward County. It is very hot and humid in August, plus you'll be in the middle of hurrican season. The best time to go would be November through March. My Brother in law has played the Doral courses several times. The blue course is the famous one- lots of water, but really all the courses are nice there. It's in a busy area just west of the Miami Airport. The White course is a great course as well. You'll have to decide if the extra $90 for the blue course is worth it.

Thanks for the responses. I will be traveling with a group of friends.
Appears the Great White is not available on August 6th. Only options are Red or Blue. Not so sure some of the friends are willing to spend the cash on the Blue monster. May have to look for alternative courses in the area.

Was there on Sunday to drop off my nephew at the Jim McLean school. The courses were in perfect condition.

Red and Gold are the ones that get the most play because they are part of the premier summer discount card so they are pretty busy but always in good condition. You can check ezlinks they usually have some specials for the blue and white for a lot less than the published rates even for residents.

Bring short-sleeved rain gear. This is the height of the rainy season.

Chances are, no rain gear will be needed. If it's raining in South Florida in August, there's plenty of lightning as well. Be prepared to sweat, and be careful with the drinking on South Beach before your golf rounds. I've seen plenty of tourists have to quit half way through the round because of the humidity and dehyrdation from drinking too many mojitos.
Without question, you have to play the Blue. The Red is an okay course, but nothing special. Eat at Taco Bell one of the nights on the trip and save the money for the green fees.
If you are looking for another course in the area, the Diplomat in Hallandale has a pretty good course. There are some GREAT golf deals in Florida right now. PGA National has some packages that are outstanding, and it's only 90 minutes up the road...

If your party wishes to pay $250.00 each for the Premier Golf Card, they can play Miami Beach GC, Crandon Park at Key Biscayne, Plantation Preserve, and a number of other high-quality South Florida golf courses for $25 to $30 per round. If you plan on playing multiple days, it's a great deal.
