Okay, we have scheduled a day to play 36 holes.
One early round at Purgatory, and then an afternoon round at Wolf Run.
Have not played either course, but have heard great things about both.
We are intending on playing Purgatory from all the way back (7700 yards), as well as Wolf Run.
We all may decide to quit golf after this day long excursion!
Any locals with any insight/advice? Good place to grab early breakfast & lunch in between rounds?

Both are great courses. I would recommend getting the 1st tee time at Purgatory or you will have trouble getting all 36 holes in as it is very common to have 5+ hour rounds at Purgatory. I played there yesterday mid morning (not busy at all) and it turned into a 4:30 round. If you get out first, you won't be waiting on everyone else all day which could limit the number of holes at Wolf Run. Enjoy as both are hallenging courses!
Grab lunch at either course as they have very good food. You'll have about a 45 minute drive between courses FYI...

Purgatory is a nice golf course, although a BIT overrated IMO. I would rather play The Fort, The Trophy Club or Bearslide if given the choice. One good thing, it is an easy course to walk!

Jeesh...could be a brutal day!!!
Plenty of places to eat in Noblesville on the way to Purgatory...whatever you have, get it with a side or steroids!!
Eat lunch at Wolf Run...chicken salad is great.
Spend some time on the greens there, quick and subtle. If it is playing hard and fast, the Heather can sneak up on you.
Enjoy, it should be a great time.

I haven't played Purgatory since the U.S. Pub Links qualifier last year, but if the rough is the same as last year you want to make sure to stay in the fairway. Even if you're a little further back because that rough is brutal. Also, keep in mind the slopes on the green, greens were very firm last time so you may end up aiming away from the whole to get it close.

I'm assuming that although it is 7700 yards, it plays less than that? Firm and fast course?

I've played Purgatory a couple of times. Last time I played it was windy and made for a long day. Tough course yet fun to play.
Here is a link for those that have never been there;

I'm headed down in two weeks and thinking about making my sunday course purgatory instead of the fort, let us know how it plays, I might just take a day off and play it monday. Cant wait to be back in Indy again, gonna party at the cigar bars Saturday night so purgatory on Sunday morning might not be smart

+1
I thought it was a long but fair course. Stay in the fairway and you can score on it.

Purgatory is one of my favorites in Indy. I've never played it all the way back, and have no intent to do so. The tips let you play a Par 5 from 740 yds. I believe. You can't hardly find the tee box from the "normal" tee boxes. I think it is a 250yd carry to make the short grass from those tees.
Wolf Run is absolutely my least favorite course. I haven't played it for a couple of years, but have heard they've softened it up a bit. When it first opened it was the most penal course I have ever played.
Regardless, it sounds like you'll have a good day. Earlier someone mentioned it was a 45 minute drive from Purgatory to Wolf Run. It may be even longer. Take a GPS in the vehicle, Wolf Run could be easy to miss if you don't have good directions.
Will be interested to hear about the day, with some reviews of the experience, good or bad.

Don't miss Bear Slide if you have time or at least try it on the next trip.
Rock Hollow up in Peru is another unique gem.
If your in the Noblesville area for dinner you MUST try the duck at Bonge's Tavern up in Perkinsville (N of Noblesville).

Okay. Well I made it home in one piece. I'm EXHAUSTED!
Purgatory was a great experience. Very long, played about 7600 today, but fair, IMO...
Shot 82, and as most are, was disappointed I didn't break 80, but oh well...
Wolf Run. Staff was great! Chicken salad was great! Thanks JT! Greens were in great shape!
Wolf Run is very difficult. A very difficult track to play the first time. Had some really great holes, and had some, eh, quirky holes IMO...
Would love to play it again, preferably not after playing 18 at Purgatory the same day!
Hole #13! 245 par three! 11 bunkers guarding the entire hillside on which the green sit on top upon! Rip a three wood, 2 putt par, thank you very much...
Unfortunately my score ended up being a DNF at Wolf Run. Actually the course was relatively busy, and we didn't want to hold up any members!
If you get a chance to play either, definitely check them out!
