Very good Open this year! Many stores to look at ... the BEST part of this years Open for me was what happen with Duval... thought I would never see him play that well again! How about you?
g-money
+1 Great to see him back in the game...looking forward to seeing him contend on a regular basis again. Like other threads have stated and IMO, he the only one that seems to posess the qualities to compete w/ Tiger.

Other than that, the last 5 holes were just great golf. Seems like a Monday nail biter should be standard for the US Open.

+1 from me for duval aswell. always been a player so it was good to see him on the leaderboard again. the highlight for me was to see putts going in for eagle instead of the usual tricky 3 footer for bogey!!

roll on turnberry!

Duval tied for the lead after the 16th! Man I was REALLY pulling for him. If his par put does not lip out on 17, I wonder if it would have put a little more pressure on Glover on the 18th. One hole to play, a short par 4, with a two shot lead is pretty much a done deal. These guys are just that good. But I wonder if it were only a one shot lead if it would have been a little tougher? Hats off to Duval though!

I am glad that it just wasn't the usual suspects at the top of the leaderboard. Barnes fell apart there in the front 9, but he also did a good job of rallying and staying in the picture. He did well for someone that should not have been at the top of the leaderboard. He can chalk this up to lack of experience. Congrats to Glover, Duval, and everyone else that made the top ten. This was fun to watch today.

Ricky holding up longer than I thought he could.
David Duval come back
Top Players still hanging on the top of the leader page even though they are playing Army golf

Those are mine.
Asleep
Duval story easily my "best part."

Second: Mike Weir's hybrid play was super impressive.

Don't hate on the Tiger or his fans. I consider it a privilege to witness first hand the career of the greatest golfer in history. He's not my idol or a player in my wet dreams, but he sure is a great athlete and competitor.

#1 Tiger played terrible in the worst of the bad conditions and still scratched out a Top 10. Pretty impressive stuff and thus providing further proof that he is without a doubt the best player in the world.

#2 David Duval's solid play. I hope he gets back in the winner's circle again very soon.

#3 Ricky Barnes not folding after a horrific start to his final round.

#4 Lucas Glover hitting a mid-iron from the tee on the final hole and making a par to win it going away.

#5 I didn't hear any whining or crying about the course conditions or luck of the draw. Even though I didn't agree with all the USGA's decisions, the tour pros took it in stride. Very professional and commendable.

Duval coming back was for sure the best story of this open!!!!!!!
Sawgrass
I liked the fact that the greens were not crazy fast. It was much easier to relate to the putting.

I also enjoyed being able to root for so many top golfers with the potential to win down the stretch. Tiger, Phil, David, and Mike created a lot of interest for me.

David Duval making his comeback...

One of my favorite things (and only things) about this Open was how the USGA moved the tees on the par 3's. It was fun seeing tight pins being played from 130-150 yards instead of ho hum 200+ yards. There's nothing wrong with par 3's being played with short irons and I honestly wish local courses would mix up the par 3's every now and again to make things more interesting instead of playing the same basic distance time and time again.

I love watching Philly Mic to see what he will do next, LOL. The best part was watching DD stay on the leader board and almost win. I hope he continues his good form.

Duval making the putt to tie the lead on 16!!!!

amazing, i really thought he would win. It's the first time i've jumped off my sofa watching golf since Weir won the masters
Chunkylover77
Mickelson making eagle to tie for the lead. That was awesome. And the entire tournament of Duval. Never thought I would see him contend anymore. I love it and hope he is back to being a consistently dominating player. Also can't say I minded seeing Glover hang on and win. Well deserved major championship.

Best part was David Duval playing good golf again... Even better part was no win by Tiger so we don't have to be inundated with constant drooling by the Golf Channel and Kelly, with 50 different spins how he did it...
Tenementrock
For me the best part was watching the US Open played on a local course that I've played. I got to annoy my girlfriend with a running commentary, as in 'I've been in that bunker' or 'I birdied this hole!!!'.
OpusX20
Loved seeing Duval back in the game again.
Skaffa77
There were many things to enjoy...I loved seeing the Duval revival and appreciated the Mickelson story...I enjoyed seeing Woods crawl back to the first page of the leaderboard making everyone wonder if he could pull off a miracle with only a few holes left. I also liked watching Glover and Barnes grab a lead and then hanging on for dear life...

More than anything, I enjoyed seeing Bethpage on the final day...the US Open pressure and conditions (of some semblance of it) returning the score to what many thought it would be, -3 or -4...
TuffKukae
Duval playing well by a mile, it was really nice to see. Tiger being human too was a nice change of pace, still think if him or Phil would have been in the final group one of them would have prevailed over Glover or Barnes.

You are kidding right?

It would be hard to cough it up any worse. It was truly painful to watch him putt for most of the final round.

Duval's play under pressure on the back nine was the "best part" for me. If not for the terrible bad break in the bunker, he might have won.

God knows that BOTH players in the final group did their best to give away the big lead. They just ran out of holes. laugh.gif

The best was David Duval,I hope that he is back for good.

The saddest was Phil,I just wished he had won it for Amy.

But congratulations to Lucas Glover who seems a very nice guy.
Robert Brown
Thanks for all the thoughts guys...would have been great to be there... glad for the New York golfers and the experience of the Open!!
dmurphy
my favorite part was the last 3 holes during the final round. Phil eagling to tie for the lead, Duval also tying for the lead, phil literally missing out on another open by less than 2" by half an inch on 17 and by another 1" on 18. Duval managed to hang in there after a very unlucky triple on no. 3 which is a huge change from his previous rounds this year and the past few years as well. Overall the last day was the best! Now i cant wait for the British should be exciting as well

I don't think he meant that he didn't choke. I believe he meant that he didn't throw in the towel(fold his hand) after he did give the lead back to the field. True, Barnes and Glover tried to give the tournament away but I would have to criticize the ones who were behind for not taking advantage of their folly. Barnes' only experience was the amateur and Glover's best major championship finish was a T-20, so it was expected for them to do what they did.

My favorite parts were how important it was to hit the fairway despite the soft greens. Yea they still got close from the rough but it was still alot better from the fairway. Also, loved the missed short putts, not because they were scared to run it too far past the hole, but because they had trouble reading the putt correctly. Loved the moving par 3 tees(they should do that every tournament). I'm actually starting to think that the fairways from now on should not allow alot of roll at the Open(maybe 15-20 yards max). Eliminate the 400+ runway drives at Oakmont and you really don't have to make the courses 7400 yards all the time. Great open though. Just my take.

For me it was Duval's stubbornness...he didn't give in after the triple on 3 and fought back like a true top player. I was rooting for David and almost hit the roof when he made that putt on 16, and really felt for him on that lip out on 17. I think that DD is probably the player (besides Glover) that will take the most out of the US Open home with him, and hope to see him keep turning it around.
afbrad1113
DD's return was just flat out awesome! When he drained the putt on 16 I screamed so loud my wife thought I had seriously injured myself. I haven't been this excited about spectator golf in many many years.

Too bad he's from Florida smile.gif

My favorite segment was Johnny Miller straying from his element to forecast weather, and dominating Al Roker in the process. I guarantee if Miller had botched the call there would be multiple threads here, mocking him. Instead, silence. laugh.gif

Otherwise, Duval was easily the most fascinating, particularly since it was great swing after great swing, nothing fluky about it. He hit more good putts that barely missed than any other player.

Worst part was the lack of variety in the course. Sorry, but long par 4s are boring. Par 70 in general is not as interesting as par 72. The lack of a great short par 4, or two of them, really hinders that course. The holes on Bethpage are not memorable compared to other major venues. But I agree with another poster that moving the tee boxes around on the par 3s was excellent, especially when they played short.

i know, i know.. poor Phil..his fans have calluses on their knees. Hopefully he would be nice enough to use the teeth of the dinosaur head he got from Amy to scrape them off. Everyone's been jacked up for Phil...oh well, maybe next year he gets to extend his 5th time second place finish. It will be another nice story. The other fella has 3..Ws and 14 majors.

DD was awesome..but don't be surprised if he still struggles in regular tour events. There are a few players that do very well in the big ones..but can't score well enough to keep up in regular tour events.. of course he used to be a world beater, but it's been a while.
He showed a lot of character this weekend..it was fun to watch.
It seems some people just got a raw deal in draws, plugged shots in bunkers with even low shots..but that's golf..you play it where you put it.

You just cant seem to let it go can you? Yes, we get it. You're in the TW camp. Golfers clap all around for you. Care to add anything of relevance before yet another thread gets locked because of your bizarre disdain for someone you have never met? By the way, you sure he wasnt referring to TW in the first place? huh.gif

Personally thought it was a fantastic finish- wish DD would have pulled it out. Hopefully its a sign of better things to come...

rolleyes.gif I'm PRETTY sure he knew that the post was referring to Tiger. Obviously (well, maybe not to all of us) he was being sarcastic.

I actually thought the dinasour head bit was kind of funny.

i actually thought the par 4s are what makes this course. They are awesome..there are long ones and short ones. never straight down the middle.

There was a 375 yard par 4
410 or 408 par 4..not long at all these days.
of course 18 at 354..you saw how difficult that was to birdie by the leaders.
the other par 4s were just out of this world. TOUGH..that's what a major is all about.
