You just won a major. Wake up.

Great for him. I followed him and Zach Johnson around on Wed. and was slightly awed when he hit the 13th in 2 - a mere 605 yds.

Wow. That is amazing. I think the original poster may have wanted to use a spoiler.
The winner is the guy who shoots the lowest score. Lucas won by 2 so congrats to him. He and Ricky plus Duval have had some rough times.
I am sure many wanted Phil to do it but you have to close the deal. Great job by Phil, Ricky, Lucas, Fisher, Mahan and Duval.
Duval is back. Good for him. Nice to see another new guy win something. Tiger has loads of money and trophies as does Phil.

Lucas Glover may not "project" the media personality golf fans may prefer but I suspect one on one with friends he is just fine.
Congratulations Lucas on going down the tough path of qualifying and keeping your emotions in check when things didn't go well.
Your mentor the late Dick Harmon has gotta be looking down and beaming!
Time to celebrate Clemson and Greenville, S.C.!

Do you know him? Then shut up. He is a great guy with plenty of personality. He also has very good manners and is not a showboat at all. Back in the day, would you have ever seen Nicklaus or even Bob Jones fist pump like Tiger. No. You're talking about a complete class act here. I'm sure he knows he won a major.

I think that everyone imagines/daydreams how they would act if they won the US Open and some are disappointed
that Lucas did not replicate the same incredible Time Magazine cover, crowd inspiring image that they would.
Of course, he actually won so grant him the liberty to be quiet and proud if he chooses to be.
I was actually touched and very happy and proud of him. He kept his cool and just kept hammering the ball and making shots.
The guy sure can drive the ball.

I think the crowd reaction, or lack thereof, spoke volumes on how most people felt about the end of the 2000 US Open.
Those crowds screamed more when Fred Funk approached a tee box during the 3rd round.........

Or maybe the USGA should run the US Open like American Idol, or we could all call in and vote who want the winner to be.

Its funny as several of you discuss our Opens Champions personality based on his reaction when it was over .
Do the words stunned , surprised , exhausted mean anything.
He won and won over names like Michelson Duval Woods all close enough to touch him.
Hell the win might not have even hit him yet but it will.
Congratulations young man well done.

Lucas Glover is a class act from the word go. In a world overrun with athletic showboats and "look-at-me" attitudes, along comes one who drives it long, walks unassumingly to his golf ball, hits it again, holes out, and proceeds with little emotion to the next tee. Seventy-two holes of such calm produced a gentleman champion.
If you need your Tiger-fill, keep tuned to the Golf Channel. They'll quench your thirst until you drown in regurgitated Tiger-Ade.
As for Greenville, South Carolina, we prefer Glover and sweet tea.
Proud of you, Lucas!!

LOL! True. Glover shot the lowest score and won - good for him. The guy had some rough patches and almost quit golf. Barnes also had tough times as did Duval. Great comeback stories.
As far as Lucas, any guy who can get on in 2 on a 605 yard hole is pretty incredible.

In all honesty, having DD up there this weekend was exciting for me and I would have loved to see him pull it off (or maybe even a playoff with Phil and Glover). But Glover won and I congratulate him.
As far as his personality goes, I find nothing wrong with him being reserved. Different strokes for different folks. And the "brain dead southern personality" comment is idiotic at best. Get a life, dude.

Good grief. I, personally, was rooting for Barnes (thought it would have been an amazing story - first tour rookie to win a major since John Daly). I know others were into the whole emotional Mickelson thing. Still others (especially older guys that remembered ...) were into D2.
But to me, the big story of the day is that the three "stories" all finished tied for second, and at the end of the day, one quiet guy was left standing. The one no one was talking about, that virtually no one was rooting for. And he didn't just win, won by two strokes, on a predictably wicked course. Best golfers in the world, and only five guys even finished under par.
Four rounds of golf, over five grueling days ... with (IMO) an incredibly exciting finish (the outcome could still have gone five or six ways even during the last hour of the thing) ... and not appearing "excited" during a two minute post round interview means this Open was dull? WTF?
I simply do not understand why everyone seems so glum, and some actually want to trash talk a guy that just did something amazing.
This Open was, to me, every bit as exciting as last year's.
CONGRATULATIONS LUCAS!!! YOU PLAYYED SOME RIGHTEOUS GOLF!!!

I haven't been as excited watching golf as i was when David Duval made birdie on 16 to tie for the lead. Im a huge Mickelson fan but how could you not root for Duval
agree completely about the 3 stories statement....i half expected to hear a lot of "NOOOOOOOOOO'S" coming from the press tent when Glover essentially sewed it up and the 3 sportswriters goldmines finished second

Very happy for him, even if I did not see his acceptance speech. What I did see was how he had a double bogey-bogey in the middle of round 3 and he just sucked it up (6 down) and kept plugging away. He's got a beautiful draw off the tee that he was just nailing. Playing the last 3 in 1 under was great golf, whatever the conditions. Nothing but congratulations to him. (Its more Steve Jones than Shaun Micheel because we're talking US Open, not PGA.)

Can't lie here so I voted for option #2. He seemed like a gracious and genuine guy in the award ceremony but I was dissapointed he won. Really wanted to see Phil get this and had nothing to do with his wife and the cancer. Thousands and thousands of people deal with the situation everyday so I don't see why this is the story line with Phil. Just leave the guy and his family deal with their situation and keep the interviews about GOLF.

I didn't miss a minute of the 2002 OPEN and loved every second. The weather related disruptions of this year's OPEN were distracting initially, but today was the best. If you didn't enjoy today, you might as well start watching POKER on the TRAVEL CHANNEL.
We had MICKELSON (my wife is a seven year breast cancer survivor, would have enjoyed seeing him win for AMY), new guys at the top, DUVALL (who was amazing down the stretch, what a shame for the triple on the par 3), TIGER with a charge that failed and some other new players at the top. Good stuff, with a deserving winner. I loved it and wish that they would play at BETHPAGE BLACK every year for the OPEN. I love this game.

Glover seems like a nice guy, and he played solid golf down the stretch. He deserved to win. He made all the tough pars that the others didn't.
With that being said, a lot of the disappointment stems from the obvious emotional Yo-Yo of the Phil situation (yet again) and the redemption story of Duval tantalizing the crowd, but coming up short. When you combine that with the fact that Glover is clearly an introverted type who seems like he suffered a catastrophic rupture of his charisma across the medium of television, it makes for a blah finish.
Granted it's not in their job description for these guys to be entertainers, but the ones who do that will always be the most beloved by the viewer. It's rarely as much fun for the average golf fan to watch a robot like Retief Goosen compared to even a lesser golfer like Ian Poulter
