Hi - I'm Billy Mays for Oxyclean (sp???).......
I jest a little, but it's gotten some stains out of my son's uniforms that would have taken scissors or new pants 20 years ago. There are other products like "Shout" or "Resolve" that are more fabric friendly than bleach.
I solved the problem by just not wearing those darned white pants, though. Green hides the grass stains - or a bolder pattern such as found on John Daly hides most pesky stains.....if you don't mind looking a little clownish.

I swear by oxyclean, seriously. You can pick it up at target or walmart, and its pulls stains out of anything. You don't want to use it for every wash though, just heavy stains.
Detergent with bleach mixed in is not a bad call either. I used tide with bleach for colors on my towels and they smell great and don't fade. It gives a little more lifting power without damaging the fabric.
