What is the deal with the no cell phone policy? How strict are they? Anyone successfully make it in with one, I have to be in touch with my email because I run my own business and anyone who does that knows that a day off is rarely really off.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

One would inevitably ring during a backswing.

Im also wondering about this. i have a few important calls that I must make on Monday. Does the cell phone policy apply to the practice rounds as well?

I've been to a bunch of practice rounds, but never for a major and tons of people had cell phones. Security simply asked, "Do you have a cell phone on you?" People would say "no" and walk right by with it in their front pocket. That was for regular tour events and not a major so i am not sure how different it is.

This is NY. I was frisked at both bethpage and shinnecock practice rounds. Don't bring the phone. You have to check it and the whole process takes forever. Leave it in your car and enjoy the day without distractions.

there have been phone banks set up around the course at previous Opens, and there is no charge for making a call(never tried calling out of the country though) so not having a cell phone isn't as big a deal as you might think
