So I started golfing again late last year and bought a set of Adidas TechResponse shoes. They were great, but I wasn't walking. Then, even when riding, after about 4 months, the toe area on the left foot began to give me issues, cramping my foot.

Finally got to the point that I could not wear them. Bought a pair of Adidas Powerbands and got the next largest size, and wide soul. This helped, but again, I was still riding. Now I've started walking mostly and they also are not working. Same problem, cramped left toe box, and the balls of my feet are killing me.

I'm not that guy with bad feet. I'm 29, 6'1", 150. Average shape, and wear normal asics or mizuno tennis shoes all day every day without issue. No wide souls, no crazy anything. Just normal shoes.

I need to get away from Adidas for sure, but I like their shoes as they have more that look like running shoes. I live in Florida so I wear shorts all year. I don't want a dressy (or even half-dressy) looking shoe.

Looking for input. As I read more, it seems I'm not the only one with fitment issues on the Adidas. Are most of the other brands out there similar? I REALLY like the look of the new FITRX from Adidas, but there is no way in hell I'd buy them based off of my previous Adidas ownership
Tmiller72
Look into some Ecco's, most styles have a pretty wide toe box.
Sloth1098
I've become a huge Ecco convert, save for running shoes they have become all I wear both street and golf, and I'm on my feet a lot. They can be a bit spendy, but watch carefully and you can get them in the $100-$120 range (I scored a pair at Dicks for 1/2 that... dumb luck)!!!
Piece of advice if you give them a shot -- try on every pair you like, sizes/fit seems to vary wildly from model to model.
turbo4door
I've looked, but all current styles are too dressy for me. Looking for athletic style, running/walking/etc.
Sloth1098
Their casual cool line is a bit "sportier", but not a running shoe-style. For a true running shoe, I think you're locked into adidas or Nike.

Thats what I was afraid of.
Any input on the Nike's? I've worn their regular shoes, never their golf shoes.

hard part of this is they all feel fine when I try them on. Its only after walking, or riding a few round where I start to notice the feel.
Mtngolfer1
I jsut got a pair of the TW SP8. They have a nice wide toe box. I have only wore them once so a full review is not in order comfort was good for walking nine holes and a driving range session. I also have Adidas 360Ltd the Nike has more room up front but I consider the Adidas 360 a 10 in comfort, so things look good for the Nike TW SP8.
JoshB10
I resently purchased the Adidas Tour 360 LTD's and I love them so far! I had the old Tour 360s before and they were a great shoe! They lasted me 3 years and they are still in good shape. I now your them for wet days, I believe the Tour 360 LTD would be a good investment. But if you don't want any Adidas at all then I would say go to Ecco. They have some very good shoes!

I can't tell you how many times I "tried" Adidas. I finally decided Adidas aren't for me, EVER.

I won't tell you exactly what shoe will be good for you, but get into a brand and stay with them. Mine happens to be Nike. As a starting point I know that I can always go to them as a brand and them isolate it down to a shoe.

Footjoy is second. I think every brand out there has an athletic style golf shoe as well as a dress shoe.

This is exactly why I wear FOOTJOY.

Endless comfort and style.

My favorite sneaker style golf shoe is the FootJoy SuperLite model 56732
(was formerly part of the Golf Athletics line, but same model #)

Most comfortable golf shoes I have owned. Walked 18 holes first time I wore them.

*edit* You will have to replace the useless SoftSpike Pulsars in a short time with something more durable.

Those look like old man/orthapedic walking shoes...

I recently purchased two pair of Adadis Tour 360's - a big mistake. I'm not bad mouthing the shoes, they look great, and for others may be the best shoe on the market. But for me, I developed Tendonitis of both Achilles tendons after about two weeks of wear. If you haven't experienced this very painful condition, you don’t know what your missing, it sucks!

So my advice is to be very careful in shoe selection. Good footwear is essential especially for walkers.

Those look like shoes you'd wear to your job at a nursing home cafeteria.
GetinDAhole26
Footjoy e-comfort are great of the footjoy reelfits. The e-comforts are by far the most comfortable golf looking shoe, not the athletic looking ones.
highergr0und
My ecco c force shoes aren't dressy at all...

I've got the orange and white ones for $60 at Dicks a bit back. I pulled them out of the box, wore them once to the range and walked 18 the next day with absolutely no issues. They are awesome. Super comfy with great support and grip. You would just need to find them locally to at least try on. I usually wear an 11.5 or 12 and the 10.5 in the eccos were a perfect fit.

how about these puppies? granted some people think they are hideous, but i you pair them up with the right colors, and if youre looking for a more athletic style shoe, then i think these take the cake!
although, they are expensive and you may not want to spend that much money on a pair of golf shoes just yet...

Are you after comfort or style? If you have bad feet, you need to be looking at Ecco. I used to sell them to people that couldn't wear anything else due to foot problems. They also have several styles that aren't dressy at all.
Carolina Golfer 2
Like Tmiller said. You're search should begin and end with Ecco. Just nothing better IMO.
turbo4door
Again...NO ADIDAS for me. Tried several styles from them, all were a no-go.

I don't have foot problems, and golf shoes are the ONLY footwear I've ever had trouble with, and it seems I am certainly not alone when it comes to adidas.
The ones that HigherGround posted aren't too bad. May have to look into those a bit.

Would prefer the mesh style look but anything that is not old-man orthopedic or dress will work I think.
Carolina Golfer 2
Ok, I posted my first comment about Ecco before I read your 2nd post about being too dressey. They have several styles that aren't. I think their HydroMax or CoolMax lines are very casual and sporty. I have been a huge Ecco fan ever since they came to the states, what about 8 or 9 years ago. I dont' wear anything else, I have a total of 9 or 10 pair golf, dress, casual, sandals. They are comforable right out of the box, just like a shoe should be. It kills me when I hear people say "once they get broken in they'll be fine" Shoes shouldn't require "breaking in". Just my .02 worth.

What can you tell me about Puma's?
Do they run large/small and wide/narrow?
Toe box?
Good for walking?

Looking at maybe the PG Breeze

Also the Tipper, but I don't really care for the price of these:
Carolina Golfer 2
I LOVED PUMA's in the 70's. As a matter of fact one of the girls I had a crush on her nickname for me was PUMA, because that's all I wore smile.gif

But back to topic, I've been intrigued by the look of their golf stuff, but haven't had a need to try them since the Eccos are so good for me. The pic looks cool though.

Ive got the pg breeze that are pictured, and IMO, they are the perfect summer golf shoe. The solesa re a little thin making them super light, but if thats a problem just wear thicker socks or get some gel insoles. Ive got a few pairs of dryjoys and a few nikes including hte tiger woods tours, and the pumas are the most comfortable for walking IMO. Id say they run a tad narrow, but I think nikes stretch a bit and are a hair on the wider side and the pumas fit my foot perfect. No slipping or ankle rub. For what its worth, Ive never tried any adidas golf shoes and the pumas can be found on ebay for under 60 bucks.

ALso, the shoes look much better in person, very low profile and sporty.

Get the Puma Swing Crown GTX
parpar41
ECCO - that's all she wrote.
BostonBob
I've gone through many different pairs, sad to say.

The only ones that I can walk 18 in and still be ready to go are the Etonic Softech. Hard to find, but well worth it.

What I like most about them is that you don't start feeling the spikes in the bottom of your foot after 9 holes.
nd4life
Footjoy dry premiere classics if you ask me. Great for all conditions and the leather inside feels so good one your feet. If you get a pair that fit right, you don't even need to wear socks...
ezra76
Dryjoy Pro's work for me. I had my old pair for 3yrs., well over 250rounds and I could still wear them if I wanted to. Still could walk through puddles all day with dry socks. I got the newer style ones at the beginning of this year and they seem the same. Very comfortable, very waterproof. I picked them up off Ebay as blems for $69. FWIW I have a pair of Adidas too. I got my car back from the shop yesterday and my FJ's were in my girls car. I walked just 9 with the Adidas and my feet were killing me. I'm going to throw them out in the trash tomorrow night.

Thanks for the quick review. I've got a set I'm looking at on ebay. Do they run normal size or small? Everything I've read suggests maybe a 1/2 size small for Puma's in general. What are your thoughts on the Breeze size-wise?
Balbowski116
The Nike Air Max Summer could be a good option too, although those pumas look really nice. You can find the Air Max Summer for about $55-70. It's an all mesh shoe very breathable. The one pictured below is the only color option.

fore_life
Id say the pumas run a hair small. I mean if you wear a 10.5 in nikes but your toes are right at the damn end, then Id get 11s in pumas to be safe. For me, 10.5s in nikes fit well but feel a tad loose, 10's would be way too tight though, but pumas in 10.5 are the perfect fit for me
heisagoalie
what about the nike shox? or nike air vapor? Almost all of Nike's stuff looks pretty sporty, and I have wide feet too - adidas just does not fit me. Nike always has.

Yeah, I saw those too. They are on the list for sure.

I am all about kix and i am a total sneakerhead. I like my golf shoes that looks and feels like sneakers not traditional golf shoes.

I'm 29, 5'11 160 lbs and i walk all the time so the kix are very important to my feet.

- The most comfortable are the Air Max Summer - but if you play early morning rounds like i do, with the morning dew on the course it goes through the mesh of the golf shoes. Your socks gets all wet which we all know it feels nasty.

Nike Air Max Summer - on www.tgw.com for $50

- Nike Air Max Edge www.tgw.com $60

- Nike TW SP-8 Black and White @ www.tgw.com for $90 (originally $200)
They are not athletic looking, but i got it because it looks HOT and it probably felt the best after walking a full round. I live in nyc and i played 8 rounds this season in them and walked all 5 courses at Bethpage. My heels and forefoot did not hurt at all!!

Hope this helps.

Great insight. The Nike's are looking better and better. Don't usually play in the morning so I doubt moisture would be an issue unless I get caught in the rain (I do live in FL after all). Any mesh style is going to let water in though I think. Not a huge concern for me honestly though.

+1 for ECCO.

I was/am an Adidas fan and insisted upon their shoes for the last half a dozen years or so, never really had SERIOUS issues with them, but when I put on a pair of ECCOs, it was literally a thousand times more comfortable.

I actually just assumed my feet would be tired after 18 b/c that's what they are supposed to be, but after 3 rounds with my Eccos, I realized it had to have been my previous shoes.

I can't say enough good things about them. They are soooooo comfortable. One thing though, they do tend to run a little large. 1/2 size for me. So don't buy without trying them on.
gjjdemarco
+1 also for the - Nike TW SP-8 that tical posted about.

My bro-in-law has them in black. He is 6'2" and weighs in quite a bit over 3 hundo, so he puts a beating on any shoe he puts on, but these have held up pretty well for him and he says they are more comfortable than his last two pairs which were both FJs.
They look bada$$ too. If my ECCOs weren't so awesome, I would pick up a pair.
turbo4door
Tried on some Nike's and FJ's over the weekend. DIdn't care at all for the FJ's, the Nike's were pretty good though.

I ended up winning the Puma Breeze on ebay for $40 so I figured I'll see how they do.
JTS
Don't buy anything until you try some Footjoy Contour Series shoes. I usually wear Dryjoys, but these are much more comfortable.
cptotr
I have some Adidas Tour 360 Sport. I bought them for walking only because I had some pro shop credit that had nothing else and I am glad I did. They work very good for me.
turbo4door
The Puma Breeze shoes showed up today. They fit great, plenty of toe room. Only issue is the ebay add said they were "BRAND NEW" and they arrived with a few minor scuffs on them. Not too happy about that. Have not had a chance to play in them yet, just tried them on. Will follow up with results.
