True story, by the way. A guy TCs a chip (double hit). He said he hit it so fat (he did) that he never made contact with the ball so he should not have a penalty because he only hit the ball once.

He caused the ball to move on the initial swing, then he redirected its motion before it came to rest when he double hit it. Hence its a penalty.

By his rationale, a blast shot out of a bunker should never count as a stroke because you never actually touch the ball.

That is what I told him. Pretty interesting, though.

^^^^^ that is exactly correct. it should be a one stroke penalty for redirecting the motion of the ball in motion. the second time he hit it doesn't count as a stroke, but it is a penalty.
