Hey All,

A few buddies and I booked a Saturday tee time for Bethpage Red. I looked a scorecard and there are about 7 par 4's that measure over 400 yards... Many ranging in the 450's. Is this correct? My drive goes about 250ish. A 200 yard iron shot into the green is going to be rough for that many holes.

Anyone play Red? How hard is it? Are the holes that long? etc....

Red is a good/ tough track. You can cross of one of those par 4s though because the 1st is playing as a pitch and putt. Also, 18 is playing the same. There is one other, I think 5 a par 5 that is playing as a par 4.

There definitely are some long par 4s, expecially on the back. Have fun!

Correct. The first hole is playing about 95 yards straight uphill, the 5th is playing as a short par 4 (I hit 4-iron through the fairway and had less than 100 yards in) and the 18th is playing around 130 yards.

I think the Red is a very good golf course with some very tough par 4's. The biggest difference between the Red and the Black is that there are virtually no holes on the Black that you can run a shot up (1, 7 and 16 are the only that come to mind) while you can on most of the holes on the Red. I am looking forward to playing the course as it should play after the Open.

Frankly I think the Red is a very underrated track and should be in the Top 100 you can play (I think it's better than the Irish Course at Whistling Straits personally).

ahhhh I've heard Red is very very good and tough. I think we might wait until after the open to play Red. I would rather wait and play Red unmodified. Thanks for your help guys!

PS...so basically anyone who is a medium to short distance wise but accurate is gonna have issues.

If you play the back tees, yes. It's a par 70 and I believe it's just over 7000 yards. From the white tees it certainly would be more manageable for the medium to short hitter.

Edit, I looked at the Red scorecard this morning and it is just under 7100 yards from the back tees and around 6500 from the whites. The long par 4's from the whites are definitely more manageable (430 instead of 480 for example).
