My buddy and I are getting ready to play the Raven Golf Course in WV next Monday. I was wondering what you guys thought of it? I here it is suspose to be a really good course, but was hoping to get some advise before playing it. I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys think.
Thanks

haven't played it in a few years, but I'd have to assume the same advice still applies. On the holes where it looks like you really need to hit the fairway, you really need to hit the fairway. You can lose some balls out there in the rough pretty easily. Some holes it isn't much of an issue. Other than that, don't remember a lot about it. Pretty cool course, and my buddy and I are trying to get back up there this year actually to play again.

It has been about five years since my wife and I played it. It is a great course and is one of the most fun that we have played. The elevation changes make you think about club selection a lot more. Combined with the altitude, the ball really travels on the holes with dramatic downhill elevation changes.
As far as advise, it has been awhile so most of it was a bit fuzzy. The things that stand out most are.
Hole 1, downhill par 5: Try to favor the right side for a good chance to get there in two. We both had eagle putts but made our birdies.
Hole 4, dramatic downhill par 4: I hit a good drive on what I though was a good line. The ball carried through the fairway down into a nasty gorge. I would hit a fairway wood off the tee if I could do it again.
Hole 9, dramatic downhill par 4: I hit the green in one over the creek. Not a very smart shot but was a lot of fun to try. Again, it probably best to hit a fairway wood off the tee unless you are going for the green or the aggressive line just right of the creek.
Good luck and have fun and take your camera.

Wow, sounds like I need to take some extra balls with me. The days are just not going fast enough. I can't wait to play it.

I grew up 1 hour from there in Lewisburg, WV (you will most likely drive through there) and have played it many many times. Everything that has been said so far is pretty much dead on. The elevation changes on holes definitely make it tough some times to pull a club. The greens can be extremely tough too if you get in the wrong spots. As the other guy said, when it looks like a tough tee shot and you need to hit the fairway....try to hit the fairway haha. Other than that, I think you will love the scenery, it is a beautiful place up there. If you like the course definitely go back in the fall and see it then, it is amazing. If you have time stop in Lewisburg on the way up or back and play Lewisburg Elks Country Club. It is really short, really tight, but has some of the best rolling greens you will putt on.

I would be the buddy going on the trip with adkins.
Were actually going through Richwood, Marlinton to get to the course. We have a camp 20 minutes from snowshoe. THanks for all the advice!

I hope that you guys have a great trip.
I have been to Snowshoe only about half dozen times and love the area. I would highly recommend Elk River Inn and Restaurant to dine at. I have not stayed there (which is probably great), but I have dined there on each trip and I think that it is amazing.

No doubt! Have you ever played Cherry Hills in Richwood? We will be doing some trout fishing in Greenbank.
