So there is this creek just beyond the green, where my ball ends up on my approach shot. This creek also runs parallel to the corresponding fairway. Which side of the creek am I suppose to drop at? Its a trek to get to the other side of the creek. If thats where I legally need to play it, do I also have the option of hitting the approach shot again with a penalty?

If it is marked as a lateral hazard (red stakes) you may drop it within 2 club lengths of where the ball first crossed the margin, no closer to the hole. You do not have to go to the other side of the creek as you would for a regular water hazard (yellow stakes).

Or you may replay the shot from the original position, with a one stroke penalty.
