Hi All,

I've searched the web for answers, and can't find them.

I am playing in a charity scramble tourney, and it says that it is based on the Buick Handicap System. Can some body please explain this to me or point me in the right direction to finding what I'll need to know.

I have played in scrambles before, but never a Buick Scramble... is this any different than a regular scramble? or does it level the field or something?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

It goes on combined team handicap. Its something like, under 24 no strokes, 24-30= 1 stroke, 30-35 2 strokes.... and you can only have like one player thats less than a 5.

thats the jist of it

"Scramble" and "rules" really don't belong in the same sentence LOL.

It's a charity event, just have fun, drink the beer and enjoy the buffet lunch afterward. Scrambles are typically won by groups that post incredibly low and totally unbelievable scores.

that I agree with, and think all rules are broken anyways... I just have never heard of Scramble under the Buick Handicap System before.

Years ago I played in the national Buick scramble, was pretty nice and the handicap system worked better than most (still had sandbaggers!) but for a scramble it was okay, as stated above just enjoy.

I googled "Buick scramble rules":

http://www.mooserungolfcourse.com/2005BuickScrambleRules.pdf

Like others have said - you total up all team members handicap indexes. They have a chart which assigns a team hdcp based on that total. There are minimums, limits, other rules, etc.

I see that they changed the rules somewhere along the way versus the "Oldsmobile Scramble" rules from the 1990's. I went to the finals once in Orlando in 1991 - sandbagger fest!

There were numerous documented incidents of major sandbagging in this event. Not sure when the rules changed or if/when the event ended?
