I have been following the discussion about The new Icon vs. Classic dry premiere. I don't know a ton about the history and models of footjoy but I know one of the main selling points of the CDP was the leather welt. Did footjoy offer another model the "classic" or something along those lines that was one step down from the CDP? If so what is the main difference between the classic and the CDP and would those who are buying up all the CDP because they are not thrilled about the Icon find these a good alternative. I hope that question made a little sense.

I think you are thinking of the Classics Tour and the CDP, the Classics Tour had an all rubber sole to it which is actually quite similar to the Icon sole, but it is still welted. So the Icon is an unwelted shoe and that's what everyone is in a tiff about. Personally I am fine with an unwelted sole (I like the ecco TPU sole, fuses the leather and the sole using a thermoplastic urethane) but the welting does offer a longevity that is hard to find in a nonwelted shoe.

yes as stated above...the classics tour had a rubber sole...but they are also now discontinued
