As most of us here do, I prefer to use grass ranges whenever possible. I'm a pretty solid ballstriker, especially on the range lol, but have a tendency to use way too much of the grass in my stall. I do everything possible to stay in my own divot, but the ranges I use don't have the "fairway" like grass that you see at country clubs and nicer public courses, with which I usually leave no more than a 12"x12" square. However at the grass ranges I frequent, it's often hard to place your next ball directly behind your original divot without having a clump of grass behind your ball or have it sitting in a hole, and causing me expand my divot to some degree. After a large bucket, this can turn into a pretty sizable chunk of useless hitting surface for that stall. That being said, how can I better manage my impact on these grass stalls? Thanks in advance.

This is a concern for me as well as my home course has a very informal grass hitting area (the 'real' range has 6 mats while the grass is off to the side, on the other side of a net that extends about 75 yards down the right side of the range). The grass isn't really part of the range so it's kind of pick your own spot and hit balls out into the range. The grass is mown but not great, so I tend to hack out a large area with each practice session. I sand and fill the area when I really put in a range session but I always feel bad about leaving such a large area of divots and would like to minimize my impact there.
