I'll be in New Haven for a week on business (Wednesday - Wednesday) and will be staying over a weekend. Was thinking of bringing my clubs would like to know if anyone out there could recommend and courses in the area (I need to stay close to New Haven so lets say 20 minutes from the city is the most I could travel).

Any thoughts on the Yale course? I will have access to it while I am there.

Yale is a very good course. I played it once about 5 years ago so I'm not sure about the conditions and all that, but the layout is real nice.

i'm from wallingford about 25 minutes away. great courses near you are New Haven C.C , Great River, Yale, and Racebrook.

New Haven CC, Racebrook, are private. For high end public, try Great River or Oxford Greens.

Less expensive options are Lymans Orchards or Traditions in Wallingford. If you have acess to Yale, its a must-play.

If you haven't played Yale (and you get access to it), you have to play it. In terms of condition, they have made great strides in the past few years. In terms of design, it is siginficantly different from anything you will ever play.

You may also look at Alling Memorial - a muni course with reasonable rates. In Orange you have Orange Hills and Grassy Hill. You Didn't mention how much you wanted to spend.

Many years ago when I was in school I played Yale regularly. It is a spectacular and very difficult course. The entire course is cut into a forest, there are many elevation changes, deep bunkers and long holes (especially from the back tees). It is considered one of the toughest courses in the US.

The ninth hole is especially spectacular -- a par three over a lake to a green cut inside the trees with a six foot depression in the middle of the green running from left to right.

I would definitely play Yale if you have the opportunity.
