I am trying to find info on state opens or any professional tournaments that are in your areas that are not part of the Hooters tour or any big tour. Looking for info on things like the Vermont Open, Long Beach Open. What tournaments are out there?

Many of the pro tournaments in Arizona including the Arizona Open are sanctioned by the Southwest Section PGA:

Click on the "Tournaments" link to see what's on the schedule.

For Maryland go to http://www.msga.org/ the state golf association or in Virginia go to http://www.vsga.org/ on both sites there is a tournament tab.

those types of tournaments are only accessible by PGA pros that live in that state. I keep hearing about some big pro-am type stuff in Oklahoma and up north that have great purses. I know one that used to be around was the Crown Royal Open in VA, and some casinos usually put something on that is good to play in.

Thanks for the help so far

I know that the NC and SC Opens are only for residents of the 2 states. Alabama is the same way. You can play in the Florida Open, Nebraska Open, Arkansas Open, Waterloo Open. I've played in those, but most state open's are for residents only.

Also I hear if you win the Waterbury Open you get on Tour and can try to get that gold jacket

Im doing a qualifier for the FL Open myself as an amateur. This is first year they brought it back from a long time ago and the tourny is at Qual Valley which I hear is a great course.

Most tournaments on the Dakotas Tour are pretty good for the money.

Utah Open is open to all eligible qualifiers, not just Utah residents. It's held at Oakridge Country Club and generally brings in a pretty solid field. It's generally held mid-August, with Monday qualifying the week of the tournament.

Last year the champ cashed a check for 20K, runner-up made 15K. Pretty good purse, a little top-loaded but not bad.

There have been some decent champions over the years...Bruce Summerhays won it last year (Champions Tour Bruce Summerhays) in his 60's. Beat his nephew Boyd (form PGA and Nationwide Tour player) in a playoff.

Clay Ogden (US Public Links champ) won it two years ago. There have been other notable winners...Mike Reid, Jay Don Blake, Dennis Paulson, Grant Waite, etc.

Good tournament...used to be a PGA Tour event way back in the day. Check it out.
