I agree! Great guy and it was nice to see him pick up the win.

Spoiler tag in your heading with no mention of the winners name is the correct thing to do. I'll vote for giving you a pass this time. Life is short!

Congrats to Zach! He is tough as nails and becoming a consistent winner on Tour.

Zach is one of my top 3 favorite guys on Tour. In My Opinion, he's probably one of the top 3 or 4 nicest guys out there. I had the great opportunity at Harbour Town this year to get my photo shot with him and I got it enlarged in my office. The guy is fantastic and there really isn't a better role model out there than Zach IMO. He's the man this year and I hope he keeps it going!!!
LAgolfer3
zach is the man.

Can you elaborate on that statement?

Good for Zach. He seems like a great guy.

Chalk up yet another win for Mitsubishi as well this year on the PGA Tour. The Blueboard/Whiteboard are still holding strong.

Fantastic play once again by Johnson.

Zach is obviously an awesome player and classy guy....but am I the only one that finds watching him to be boring? Although very effective, i'm not a big fan of his swing or his short game/putting stroke. Maybe he is just too consistent and down the middle to satisfy my entertainment needs. Again, awesome all-around guy, but I tend to flip the channel when he is getting a ton of air-time. I'm interested to know if you guys are bored watching any other players.

His short game won Zach a green jacket.

So you're not a fan of a quality short game?

Yes - his grip on the putter is not ideal. It's not what his instructor teaches - it's a modification and when he got in trouble for most of 2008, the shaft was too far back imparting too much loft. But he corrected that in fall 2008. And he does have a quick tempo with the putter. But the basics - square setup, level shoulders, etc. are great.

Yeah, that short game will win him more majors too i'm sure..Zach is going to win a ton of tournaments. Still boring to me though. Maybe it is the extreme rigidity in his motions...especially around the greens. I prefer to watch players with a little more hand action through the ball who tend to play a greater variety of shots.

Poor weather and a stupid course set-up won Johnson the Masters.

But you have to give him credit. The goofy looking dude really grinds hard at it and has improved at each level. While this tourney is nothing but a glorified Nationwide event ... Garrett Willis a near top 10 is proof of that .... to win it again, while shooting a 60, is very impressive. Even at a minor league event and goat ranch like that place.

Last time I checked, everyone played the same Masters course setup and dealt with the same weather. Maybe Zach played smarter and strategy is part of the game. Plus, his short game was going. Bottom line - he is a winner and more than once or twice - 5 wins in 5 years is the mark of an elite player. Moreso, when you consider has has 5 wins in the last 3 years.

Exactly. I'm a big fan of his short game. Zach never went for any par 5 in two at Augusta and won. So yes. His short game did win the Masters for him.
For a guy who doesn't hit it very long (107ish clubhead speed), he knows how to get it done. This guys all about fairways and greens. He should do pretty good at Bethpage the way he's playing this year.

Didn't the rest of the field at the Masters have to deal with bad weather and the same course setup that Zach when he won the Masters? Why diminish what he has accomplished. H8rs Suck!!!!!!
robb01
It was a great win, and he had to earn it, that was a clutch birdie in the playoff

I read some of your posts about Johnson, you seem to really hate this guy. Did he steal your girlfriend or something?
McGuire
Hate ? .... very impressed by this guy. Doing what he has done with what he has ... that's impressive. He gives us all hope.

If you're going to make statements like that you should at least pretend to have a clue. The guy has serious game and most importantly, he knows how to win. His record backs that up.

Other than personal attacks regarding the way he looks or the fact that he can only win on a glorified Nationwide Tour event or at the Masters if the weather is bad or if the course is set-up "stupid", what is it exactly about his game that is lacking?

I was wondering if he's still gaming the NV? Has he gone BB?

totally amazed by the guy .... there is hope for anyone and everyone in this game

' play golf ' .... you just never know

I was rooting for Goydos, but he shot himself in the foot on 18. McGuire, if this was a goat ranch, exactly what courses do you play on? smile.gif

Lot's of man love for my Iowa homey.

Seriously, the (usual) robotic consistency of his swing and its results is one of his biggest draws for me. As someone who religiously charts my stats in the neverending quest to improve at this game, his "fairways and greens" kind of game is particularly enchanting for me. I'd rather watch 18 holes of tee-to-green coverage of ZJ than Tiger or Phil.

... unless TW and PM are paired together in the final round of the intergalactic golf championships or something.

You have to like a guy who has come from no where and made it big. A guy like Zach leads the fedex points, while all of the "next big things" fumble their way around (Sergio, Scott) His game isn't flashy, but he has great consistancy. Reminds me of a Furyk or Stricker, their names are always around the top of the leaderboard. I can definately see him winning a US Open.
scotto69
He's a great player in my book, that's for damn sure. He deserved his Masters win, and he continues to put himself in position to win tournements.

Anyone who shoots 60 on a PGA tour set up is a golf stud to me, especially if he is a player who actually has won MULTIPLE times on tour now.
pperreault
Hi,

I think Zach could be a contender at the US Open... If he putts well, the least consistent part of his game but he's improving every year!

Time to prepare for my golf lesson of tomorrow!!
