I am worried that I will not get my weekly fix of PGA golf. (as well as Sarah Stirk's splendid assets). I have heard that Setanta is struggling with payments for Scottish football and may be in danger of going under. Any info?

So long as Sky gets the US golf, who cares?

Anyone who has ever had to have any dealings with Sultana Sports would surely hope they do go tits up.
Anyway, if sky got the US golf back they could get shot of Ross 'Bubonic' Macfarlane, employ Sarah Stirk and have her presenting with Di Stewart.
That would be worth watching.

There are people losing their jobs all over the world, I'm sorry but I don't like Setanta's shoddy, overpriced service, and I'm afraid, maybe if it was worth what they charge, then they wouldn't be in this predicament.

I subscribed to Setanta as soon as the golf started, but I think the service is poor.
It is poor because a lot of the content is rubbish - ancient Shell's WWOG, that hideous poker gambler's golf programme and a lot of other filler. Also, the signal is very poor, and every time a cloud goes overhead, the picture breaks up, even when the signal quality is pretty good.
It also costs extra to have it on a second TV in the same house, a rip-off if you ask me.

Other than Stirk, the Setanta coverage is woeful. My biggest gripe is how little golf they actually show. It's mostly ad breaks coupled with Holyer and Rafferty spouting their usual
guff in the studio.
The Sky coverage is much better, however I'm loath to give Rupert Murdoch any more cash.
It's a tough call.

To be fair, one of the problems that Setant and Sky both face is the horribly interrupted US network feed. They have to cover a couple of minutes of downtime wile US coverage goes to yet anther ad break or to one of those sponsored segments where some player gives a tip, sponsored by Cialis or something. That is why you get forced waffle from Rafferty for 2 or 3 minutes. Someone is probably speaking into his ear saying "Keep talking, Ronan!".

Me too. I also hope Setanta go bust because of their stupid business model. I would have liked to subscribe to the golf only, without all the other rubbish.

Martin,
I'm not blindly backing Sentanta and the product they offer. The product is clearly flawed and not great value and of course-like most-I'd like to see it back on SKY as part of the sports package we have.
I just don't especially care for posts in the current economic climate calling for a business to "fail/go bust/shut down" without any redress to the human factor that is part of the situation.
Hope that explains what I meant and let's wait and see what happens with SKY/PGA coverage if they go under...

"in the current economic climate"? I disgaree, it's too easy to say that. If you supply a poor service for a too high a price, which isn't value for money, then your business is always going to struggle, no matter what the economic climate. There are real victims of the economic climate, and there are others who use it as an excuse.

Fair enough, but some of the people are responsible for the poor content which led to bad word of mouth and fewer subscribers etc .....
I work for a small VC backed pharma company and no such company is immune from the cold economic wind either.

I'm a happy subscriber (I must have very low standards!), think we must all remember that Sky are not the white knights come to save us from the evil Sultana Sports Dragon.
At least Setanta provide us with a dedicated golf channel. If the PGA Tour came back to Sky, it would be shoehorned into their current channels, which are full to bursting already (or can you see an extra pay per view golf channel from Sky coming...becuase I can). I hardly watch any European Tour Golf anymore due to Sky's refusal to repeat the coverage when I might not be working, which is a shame as the commentry team are great.
Golf night is shocking!

I do agree though, it seems like Sky threw the toys out of the pram when they lost the PGA Tour and relegated Golf completely. Synchronised Squirrel baiting gets a higher billing some nights, I do wonder what I pay my subs for on occasion....

I don't have any problems with Setanta or it's golf coverage - I get to watch every PGA tournament.
SKY, on the other hahnd, like to sneak in the occasional pisshead ex-footballers / D-list celebrity matches that I find utterly cringeworthy and a disgrace that they even have the nerve to put them on the Sports channel.

I am another happy subscriber to Setanta. I have never had any trouble with the service and I am surprised to hear that others have, what really is there that can be so terribly bad? My only complaint is the advert breaks, and aforementioned, the feed interruptions. Even the £11 p/month fee isn't breaking the bank.
Are there people forgetting about those who do not subscribe to SKY Sports? I don't; I get absolutely everything I want from Setanta. Admittedly I do only watch the Thursday through Sunday coverage on Setanta Golf and the odd Liverpool game on Setanta One, but I don't need any more.
I honestly couldn't care less about the European Tour so don't subscribe to SKY Sports. If the PGA Tour was to go back to SKY then I wouldn't have any golf apart from The Masters, The Open and some amateur tournaments. Is it fair for those people who don't subscribe to SKY if the coverage was returned?
