Without looking it up, take a guess write now who is number two on the PGA tour all around stat. Try to guess without looking it up, post your guess and then look it up. You should be surprised and impressed with this players standing in a variety of individual stats. To keep it fun, if you have comments about this player, post them without mentioning his name. I could have taken 10 guesses and not picked this player..

forget guessing who's #2, look at 8, 9, and 10--Ben Crane, Kevin Na, and Charlie Wi. nice players, but not exactly the elite of the PGA Tour. pretty worthless stat.

It is pretty crazy, I personally would have never guessed it if I hadn't known before I saw the thread. The only reason I knew though is because he is an alum of my University and I really enjoy following him. As much as I hate to admit it, it is a pretty useless stat though.

What I was surprised by was his proximity to the hole stat, not just from the 100-125 (2nd) and 125 to 150 yard range (1st), but how highly he is ranked from the 225 to 250 range (9th). I did not even know he could hit it that far. Also, given his putting "technique" he is a far better putter then I would have guessed ) - 6th in Putting average. And a very strong Saturday and Sunday scoring average. (4th and 4th). I agree his stats would indicate a better Win record then he has compiled.

i imagine that his proficiency in getting the ball close to the hole helps his putting average quite a bit. i would be more interested in the total feet of putts made.

#2 is one of my favorite players, and as I recently saw in an older poll, considered the "best player without a victory" on the pga tour by his colleagues.
Btw, I'm surprised he's ONLY 9th in approaches above 220. Probably the most accurate fairway wood player on tour right now. Dude will go for greens with a 3 wood from 250- surely, near the edge of his range.

That makes me think we're talking about Tim Clark. That guy is money with a fairway wood in his hands.

Based on the posts I would guess Briny Baird...interesting I never would have guessed that, not exactly the most useful stat though

Maybe I am just completely out of it and I have no idea what I'm talking about (it wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last) but wouldn't the only "All Around Stat" that would matter at all be score?!? Perhaps a little juggling would be needed, score relative to average score or something like that to account for different conditions and different courses, but with all the different swing styles and putting styles and player styles, and ultimately the game is one of how many strokes not how or with what you hit them with -- it all comes down to score, right?!?

From pgatour.com:
"The All Around statistic is computed by totalling [sic] a player's rank in each of the following statistics: Scoring Leaders, Putting Leaders, Eagle Leaders, Birdie Leaders, Sand Saves, Greens in Regulation, Driving Distance and Driving Accuracy."

I find it amusing that everybody's freaking out over the "broken" swing of the guy that leads the tour in Adj. Scoring Average.
