I know the pro's will go out and play a few practice rounds while they take notes and map out the course. What about the rest of us...is there a resource that has strategies for different golf courses?
This would be a good idea if there isn't. Like a yardage book that already has notes in it...how to play the hole, the way it was designed. Show the conservative and aggressive plays, etc....
I bring this up so when I go play a tournament at a course I've never played I'm not totally lost while standing on the tee.

This isn't exactly what you were asking for but....
If I'm going to play a course that I have not played I'll typically go to: www.golfwits.com and use their browser based yardage books to run what-if scenarios to figure out what clubs to likely hit and what type of shots to play. It's free.
I then take notes on each hole and bring them to the course. Actually, I've been pleasantly surprised how well that has worked since I can have notes on distances to hazards, fairways, etc.
