Saw this morning where Vijay and Adam Scott both committed last week. I think every US Ryder Cup player other than Ben Curtis will be there, plus Captain Azinger. A few Euro's in Luke Donald, Paul Casey, and Ian Poulter. Ogilvy is expected to committ next week. Alot of rumors around town about Tiger making an appearence, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Regardless, should be a good field. I'll be interested to see what the players think of the remodel. The few who play out of Colonial have had some positive comments. Definitely plays a good deal longer without so many elevated tees, raised fairways, and a bit of added yardage (still a par 70, but up over 7,200 yards).

I'm looking forward to having some live golf in DFW over the upcoming two weeks. I don't generally go to the Nelson, but am happy about the Colonial field.

The Houston Open has you beat by a long shot, thus far.

Not really, if you consider that, well, it's in Houston. Actually, it's not in Houston, but close to Houston, probably not more than a couple of hours away from downtown Houston, unless you try during rush hour, which lasts, well, all day.... and sometimes part of the night.

I wasn't trying to compare fields, just saying that Colonial has a better one this year than in the recent past. The fall-out from the Annika experiment has taken a long while to get past.

Traffic is not nearly as bad during rush hour in DFW. I would much rather be in Houston traffic. And I was just picking on you!!! The Colonial is a good tournament. I've been to all in Texas and rank them in the order:

(1) SHO
(2) Colonial
(3) Byron Nelson
(4) Texas Open

Have you ever been to the pavillion at the nelson on a nice friday afternoon.....hard to find a better sporting event in the world wink.gif

Good thing ... because that thing being played this week, like last year, is just a glorified Nationwide event

I'm just picking on you as well. No harm in giving a fellow Red Raider a hard time. I'm just pretty down on Houston as I have to go there this weekend and am breaking my cardinal rule of actually spending the night there (in 8 years of my sister living there, I've spent the night 2 times, all others visits were day trips). Though, I do want to point out that I live in FW, not the "D" and will agree that their traffic is as bad as yours. The traffic here in Fort Worth is about the same as the traffic in Lubbock: Just not much of it. Plus, I live 4 blocks from my office, 8 blocks from my golf course, and fill up with gas about every 8-10 weeks. Traffic and I don't get along.

The Houston tournament has benefited greatly from their new date. We're hoping the same will happen at Colonial. That said, it comes down to whether or not you have Tiger and neither of us do. Hopefully he'll return to Texas someday.

I've been to all of these Texas events as well. Traffic and field aside, not sure how I would rank the SHO, Byron and Colonial -- they all have such different character. The Byron has a lousy course in my estimation but a Phoenix-like party atmosphere. Colonial has a great course and subdued atmosphere -- very old school, probably the best to actually watch golf and the best course. The SHO falls somewhere inbetween on both accounts.

In the past, the San Antonio event has clearly been the weakest. I'm interested to see what San Antonio event turns into after they move to TPC San Antonio next year and get a couple of years of May dates under their belt and intrenched into the schedule. La Cantara is great resort for us mortals, but one of the weakest courses on tour.

I think getting at least 3 of these lined up as a true Texas Swing is great. IMO if the SHO was also on the schedule on the Swing the health of all four would probably be better and the fields would all be better overall. My sense is that the SHO like their spot before the Masters.

The Norman built TPC of San Antonio should draw a much better field. Sergio was a consultant of this course so I would bet he is there next year as well as maybe Vijay and a few other big names. Should be interesting

I like the SHO's spot as a warm up to the Master's. Redstone is probably one of the best courses in Texas and could probably rival some of the best courses in the nation. CowtownTexas, it's always great to meet fellow Red Raiders. iscarter69, I agree with your take on every venue. I can't understand why the 3 oldest tournament on tour brings such a horrid field. San Antonio needs to fix this, it makes Texas look bad. Now as far as making the SHO a member of the Texas Swing, yes this makes sense, but again, the SHO brings some bigtime players, and is about 30 minutes from my home, I'm very complacent with our spot. Tiger has some bad allergies in the Houston climate at that part of the year, so we will never see Tiger at the SHO, and it really sux. I think Tiger plays the Byron, doesn't he?

I wouldn't count Tiger out just yet, Mark O'Meara has moved to Houston and hopefully he'll persuade him to play the SHO. I was fortunate to see and talk to him(Tiger) the last tournament at Champions golf course.
slicer365
Wow, I just read the blog from the Chronicle. O'Meara's wife is quite a looker. I would love to see Tiger at the SHO, but the price point is just right, I'm afraid if he came, ticket prices would skyrocket. Plus the allergies issue, I just don't see it happening.

Tiger hasn't played the Nelson since Byron passed away. He hasn't been to Colonial since his rookie year. I doubt he's ever played the Texas Open. I'm not certain about Houston other than at Champions.

Would be nice to see him come to Texas for something other than a club fitting or to shoot a commercial.

The Nelson managed to get a couple of big names this year, but not many. Colonial has a much better field, which is good for me as I won't make it over to the Nelson. Sad to see the folks in Dallas struggle so much getting big names.

Slicer, I made it to Houston this weekend and my opinion stays the same. Made it to Madisonville in about 2 hours, got through the Woodlands, traffic was moving good, so I skipped the Tollway. Bad mistake. Got behind... well.. something around Aldine and sat for over an hour. That just doesn't happen up here, at least not in Fort Worth. Being in traffic like that on a Saturday morning is just amazing to me.

I'm certainly not expecting Tiger in Dallas anymore now that Byron has passed. Unfortunately, the Byron is going to have field problems if they continue to play at TPC Las Colinas -- the real draw there is the Four Seasons hotel and the city. If money was not an issue, they would just blow up the course and start over.

In general, I think the players (and wifes/significant others) love Dallas and all aspects of the Four Seasons other than the course which is flat subpar for the Tour. The course is nowhere near the top in the DFW area. We will probably continue to see tweaks to the current design to appease players.

I think if the TPC of San Antonio is well received, the Byron Nelson being in the middle of the swing may benefit from players wanting to do a two or three-step down here.
