"So what's the deal with white belts?"
END_GENERIC_COMEDIAN_VOICE
I know they are very fashionable at the moment but I can't seem to bring myself to come around on them. The only people I see with them at my club are the kids on the high school golf team (we'll call them Adam Scott start kits).

Our club team went to white pants and belts (lime shirts) two years ago. At first...I was confused...was I gay or not? After the rounds I would always change my clothes quickly, returning to my normal diat of jeans and flannel shirts.
However after a while, this new color confidence kind of grew on me, and I'm almost to the point where I COULD order something from "Loud Mouth"...maybe in a couple of years or so. It's hard coming out of the navy blue & dark grey closet.

I can't stand black belts, brown belts, white tube socks with shorts, towel clipped to pants, brush tees, long walks on the beach, bad lies, slow hacks, project due dates, bills, the Taliban, Dick Cheney, the Octo-mom... Belts that are dyed white are the least of my worries.

i had a similar experience. i started wearing a white belt sometimes when i played golf and i found myself wondering, "am i sometimes gay? or am i now full-on gay for having even worn it once?" as i grew more comfortable wearing the white belt more often, i began wondering, "am i gayer than i was before, and if so, is this the gayest i'll ever be?" well, i found out the answer to that not long after when one day i bought a very light pink polo shirt. it was actually more of an off-white with a slight rose-tint but nonetheless, apparently, it made me even gayer.
it also made me more confused because for so many years, i had thought the definition of gay meant... well, you know. but that definition was not true of me! i had loved women and had many many conquests of the female form in all corners of the world!
alas, a more twisted conundrum i had never encountered. but then, then by the luck and glory of Thor, i ran into a topic on a website called GolfWRX.com that set out to determine, for good and all, whether or not my white belt made me gay. so here i am, popcorn in hand, eagerly awaiting the conclusion and hypothesis of the OP.

I think white belts look very clean and nice when pulled off with the right clothing. I like how everyone is giving their input, but if you think a white belt is "gay" you probably are just too ugly to wear one. Our you just might not have the game or the personality. I wear a white belt and its not to act like a pro, but it looks good and I have white shoes so it clashes great.

But by the sounds of the comments on here if I wore a black belt today I would've shot even par instead of 3 over.
Anyway, today was the first time in my life I've ever worn a white belt, and I didn't think twice about it. White belt, white Titleist hat, and my white golf shoes. I'm wearing it tomorrow with a blue shirt, white shorts, white shoes, and white hat. Shoot me. I thought I looked good today, and the 25 year old teller at the bank thought so too.
When you do it right there's nothing wrong with a white belt. By right I mean you have to have some sort of game, and can't be sporting a beer belly of any sort (no offense to anyone). The day I develop a gut is the day I put the white belt away forever.

Sorry for the confusion....gay doesn't necessary mean homosexual. Just "gay"...as in not manly, or you would not see that on a Miller Genuine Draft commercial.
From the Dictionary application that came w/ my Mac:
gay |gā|
adjective ( gayer , gayest )
1 (of a person, esp. a man) homosexual : that friend of yours, is he gay?
• relating to or used by homosexuals : feminist, black, and gay perspectives.
2 lighthearted and carefree : Nan had a gay disposition and a very pretty face.
• characterized by cheerfulness or pleasure : we had a gay old time.
• brightly colored; showy; brilliant : a gay profusion of purple and pink sweet peas.
We're talking about definition #2 here.
Example of something that is gay: Sharing a bucket of popcorn with friend at the movies (both of you are dudes).
Example of something that is homosexual: Having sex with your friend after the movie (both of you are dudes).
(Regarding the Bubba Watson quesiton) Yes...a dude wearing a pink shirt is gay...doesn't make him homosexual. However in Bubba's case (also for Ian Poulter) they have taken something this is gay (pink) and made it into their bit. Also, both are exceptional golfers so they have double exceptions (BTW...I own and on occasion wear a pink shirt....so that's gay but what the hell).

I've always believed that your belt should always match your shoes. If you wear black shoes, then a black belt should be paired with them. If you wear brown shoes, then a brown belt is necessary. If you wear white shoes, then a white belt goes with them.

In my opinion........(thats what you want in this topic correct?)
White belts are in fashion with the younger crowd, the funny thing about younger crowd fashion trends is in a rush to be different they all look the same. Now I have personally witnessed 12 teenagers at the range all wearing white belts, and 25 adults at the range, none wearing white belts.
IMO if you are under the age of 25 and have a waist size under 32" you might be able to get away with it, unless someone is paying you to wear the white belt, (see Ian Poulter) If you are just an average dude out to play golf with his buddies you should expect to take a lot of grief, unless your buddies are a bunch of fashion models. Let's just say a white belt goes better with a white purse than a golf bag

I know if someone in our foursome was wearing one the jokes would be relentless.
IMO Phil should NOT be wearing one, yes he has lost weight but he needs to drop another 20 before he can pull it off, Poulter pulls it off because it fits his image and body type better. Also most tour pros under 25 like Rory McIroy, AK or Ryo Ishikawa I think it works.

Phil def should not be wearing the white belt, especially with the black shirt and pants. I still cannot believe that it came back into fashion (I cannot write "style" since there is no "style to it). There is a reason why it was not worn for 30+ years. Someone said earlier that is what their Dad would wear in the 70s and I agree. Dangerfield wore won in Caddyshack as a joke and as a knock of golf attire. I have a feeling it will die out quite quickly too.
