white with tan croc is sweet!!!

FJ did well with these. I really like the two tone's. My Tour 360 LTD's may be benched...
tbowles411
I don't think I'll bench my Adidas, but those Black Smooth/ Dark Brown Caiman Print ones are SWEET!

Good stuff, fellas. We look forward to your feedback and look forward to giving you a few pair to demo for us. Make sure you check out the FJ Blog for more details on the inspiration and R&D behind the new FJ ICON, as well as some additional images. Enjoy!

Check out the blog. These are available as custom options... Bring on the colour!!

CMG, Any details on width offerings specifically on the custom options?

Oh SNAP!

I thought the point of discontinuing the classics line was because they were too hard to sell at the price point but these are $250 so maybe $200 in the stores...I am not sure I fully understand the logic....and I definitely like the Classics way more

Thanks rocketman. Four stock width options to start with additional widths available through the MyJoys custom program. Something to point out regarding sizing with FJ ICON, you've got memory foam on the collar and inside of the tongue and a removable fitbed so you may want to try them on before purchasing as they may fit differently than shoes in the past. Another huge advantage of these being offered through MyJoys is the delivery time - 2-4 weeks! I'm just saying...
rocketman76
thanks

Any indication of UK availability? I am guessing Jan-Mar2010!!

With the memory foam I guess this will give a fit closer to DryJoys than Classics? If this is not in-line with the old Classics manufacture around the collar of the shoe, I would question the longevity of fit on this as opposed to the traditional leather collar and footbed, as any additional fabric/foam you put in is going to (over time) move or squash and as such offer a less stable fit..
chewey15
Classics were $365 and these are $250 Drew do the math! These are money!
jas904
Those custom colors are great. I like these even better now.

HOLY $HIT!!! If this is true, and they do indeed allow custom colors for the wingtips, I have, without a doubt, found my next go to shoe!!!

Great job FJ!

Good question. We'll get back to you on availability in the UK. Regarding the memory foam, which has been a big hit in our SYNR-G shoes, the distinct advantage it offers is it doesn't take a set like other materials which, could, as you said, break down over time. It's targeted technology where it's needed most (around the collar and under the tongue) that will provide a more precise fit and greater stability. The rest of the interior lining is full grain leather. Does this help?

I have elf feet. The only shoes that really fit me well are Classics in 7E. No, not EE or EEE.

CMG: Is there a solution for me in the Icon?
rocketman76
Sounds great, so long as it works, it'll be a hit i am sure. I just love the way I can (sory could!! cray.gif )take a pair of classics and they fit right from the box. Even with DryJoys I find I need to wear them in due to the 'fit' around the collar.

Look forward to trying some out once they hit the UK..

I trust the waterproof guarantee applies over here as well.. Given that it actually rains over here tongue.gif

So I get to still pay high prices, but don't get a welted, leather sole?

Gee, I'm excited. :not:

I'm interested in what these will actually retail for -- a prior poster thought about $200 which is probably about right. No one actually paid $365 for Classics (more like $250- $280) -- or at least I hope they didn't.

These look nice, but I'm glad I bought a few pairs of back-up Classics. These will make good rain shoes though -- especially if you can customize the color.
good read!
The custom option is very exciting. Now maybe i can end my search for the shoes in my profile. Great job FJ!

out freakin standing

really really like these. Love my DryJoys that I have now and was planning on a pair of SYNR-G but now have to move up to these!

I am buying it as soon as I can get my hands on it.

I was wondering if Icon will offer wide sizes.

Adidas chew my hill up!
Brando5105
I love all the color. I might have to get a pair as soon as they come put
Pure745
Agh.. thank God I just bought my 4 pairs of Classics Dry Premiere, these do not look even close (from the pics) to the CDP's in terms of overall look and quality. The leather soles on the CDP's just add so much class, sorry.. as of now, no chance at taking away my CDP's, instead.. i think im going to look for more of em smile.gif
rblmp32
I think I saw a couple pairs of these at Quail Hollow, very sharp looking... Vjay had on the all black pair with the BAC lace system.

I am sorry for Footjoy but this collection of FJ Icon doesn't seems to be as nice as the classics line. We can see that the quality is not the same as Classics, chinese are not as good as US shoemakers (and I am not US or English). The good thing is that they are customizable as the myjoys, but i think I would prefer now to buy a myjoy than those Classics bad copies. I am a real lover of Classics (13 pairs now) and those FJ Icon won't never replace Classics.
When I have first seen the first pictures from Fj about these new collection I thought that they would be better than that I can see now.
SORRY Fj

$250 for golf shoes?

Fools and their money...
Redman
FJ of course you aren't going to please everyone with the new offering but these shoes are awesome in my opinion and it seems that most others agree. Leather soles are great and classy if you are using them for work, dinner, etc but just not functional for golf.....especially walking. I know that some of you guys love them and say they are the most comfortable things ever but that is a minority opinion compared to the comfort of the Nikes, Adidas, etc on the market now. I moved away from FJ a couple of years ago for Nikes but will soon move back now that I have seen these. Way to go!

My math says all the people employed at the Massachussets plant lost their jobs. I obviously have not tested the quality of the new Icon, but my money says it's not as good. I bought 4 pair of Classic Dry Premiers last month and when the budget allows I'm going back for more. { If any are left]
stuart.f.cohen
These look great and i am glad to see that they will be available soon. Will order a pair and see how they are. I am sorry to hear that the plant closed but its great that your customers have a quality option. Nice going FJ

Isn't there any industry that here in U.S. didn't see any job loss to Asia?

We have to ask ourselves why.

I agree that those doesn't look like as high quality as Classics but I am sure
consumer will dictate if price difference between icon and classics is worth to them.

We shall see.

that's MSRP...

do people not understand that $250 is NOT what YOU (the consumer) will pay???

These look excellent. Can't wait to try them.

Looks like a pretty big let down in my opinion. It might be time to look elsewhere for footwear.

I am all over a pair of custom saddle wingtips, so sweet.

I too am a very longtime Classics guy (many many pairs) and do not see myself purchasing these models; sorry. My Footjoy days are on shacky ground; you will find many truly loyal Classics supporters feel the same way and honestly we are still your target market for this lower quality shoe so you might want to consider how you will attract us back to your brand; loyalty program, etc...BB

I had a pair on my feet today while the FJ rep was in a store I was at today. They felt really nice. Lighter than the Premier's. I wear a 10.5 and they fit pretty true.

FJ is really excited about this line. This is going to be a HOME RUN in the shoe department.

frozen_rope
He wrote 7E, meaning one width size larger than 7D.
I wear a C width in the Classics and am disappointed to see the new ICON's do not come in C width.
Hopefully the new Icon N width will be comparable to the old Classic's C width.
Also, I am curious to know how similar the shape of the new Icon Laser last is to the Classics Laser last.

Wow, 7E? Like EEEEEEE?? We will always do our best to fit our customers in whatever they need and I will try and get an answer for you.

Look at the pics.. I still think the CDP's are way classier and nicer, to me it's not even close. Maybe they will grow on me.. you be the judge:

BTW.. there are already ICON's up on golflocker.com for $219
TitleistHOG
They will not offer C size? That sucks, i have about 10 pair of classics and the C fits me perfect. This really puts a sour taste in my mouth.
TitleistHOG
it doesn't even look like any of them come in Narrow.
frozen_rope
The major difference between the Classic's line and the new Icon line is that the Classics were made with a welt (upper stitched to the sole) construction.
The benefit of the welt construction is that it allows the shoe to maintain its shape for years and years.
The Icon's (like all other golf shoes and all sneakers etc...) are made using cement construction, where the upper is glued to the outsole. Shoes made using cement construction do not maintain their shape nearly as long as welt construction shoes.

In the Icon line FJ appears to offer an all white, an all black, and a white/brown saddle in N (narrow) width.

FJ made the Classics in C width by using a D width last but slightly smaller upper, so it was a never a true C width last.

* for those who do not know, a "last" is a piece of equipment made of plastic, or wood, or metal, and it is shaped like a foot.
In production shoe factories use "lasts" to marry the upper to the outsole, and then the final stage of production is removing the last from the shoe.

My guess is that the new Icon Laser last shape/profile is similar to the Classics laser last, which is what what FJ has used for The Classics and Classics Tours in recent years. That profile is fullish rounded toe box and slightly narrow heel.

Years ago FJ used several different lasts, each with a different profile/shape. Customers came to know which FJ last fit their foot best, and then they bought the new FJ shoes which were made on that particular last. However in recent years FJ dropped the last selection and started making all the Classics and Classics Tours using one last, called the Laser.

TitleistHOG , if you had a good fit with the Classics in a C width, then then new Icon N width I expect will be nearly the same fit for you. If anything I would guess the new Icon N will be ever so slightly more narrow fitting then the C width you've been using.

There's something about the styling that just doesn't measure up to the Classics.

If I buy a pair I'm forced to change the cleats out of the box. Champ Stingers are a pain in the butt to remove after some use --- actually pulled out the cleat seat in two pairs of Classics Tours trying to remove them ruining the shoes. That 2 prong tool either bends or rips through the plastic. Never again.

Not sure about these.....might have to look elsewhere for quality golf shoes.
TM golf guy 182
I have 3 pairs of classics that are nearly brand new, in fact one pair is still new. At this point, I think I will look for a few more. The jury is still out on these for me. I might fall in love with them when I see them, but I'm not holding my breath yet.
TitleistHOG
I guess I will just have to hope the size M work since that is the size with all the color options I am looking for. I have had a few pair of dry joys in size M but the classics size C was the best size for me in those shoes. If the size works sign me up for some wing tips
