I paid for a series of 3 lessons at a local academy. The PGA pro I deal with is not the owner, but rather one of the teachers. Should I tip after the lessons? Thanks in advance.

I personally have never heard of tipping a teaching pro... Not sure what other will think, but I don't think is "standard" or anything.

do you want to be able to call him between lessons and ask for advice?
do you want to send him video tape of your swing?
do you want someone to care when you shoot a good score?
if yes to any of these a tip would be a good idea

...or hire a teaching pro who does that anyway. You already paid for their service. Quality is hopefully included in the cost. Tipping is weird.

They'd probably turn it down anyway.

It's a nice thought and I'm sure it would be appreciated and accepted, but you already paid for his time. It's hard to stop once you start so I wouldn't. If you take a bunch of lessons and are doing well and you feel he's somehow gone above and beyond "normal" service maybe at the last lesson throw him some $$.

I to was faced with this after my first lesson. My instructor stayed a extra hour and I tried to tip him an extra 10. He denied and said I already payed for his time.

If you see the same pro regularly and are happy with the service, a less awkward and more appropriate gesture would be a gift, whether cash or otherwise, around the holidays and/or on the pro's birthday.

Being a golf pro I will offer my thought, in my opinion, completely unnecessary. The rate the teacher charges is all that is expected.

Probably the best, most sensible way to handle this...

I would never expect a tip but I have gotten a few pretty large ones. I wouldn't take them after a first lesson but I have accepted them after a student shoots a career round, wins a tournament, or some other milestone. It is appreciated especially with my situation but I don't think it is necessary at all.
