Has anyone had the idea of trying to join a private country club for the summer? With the economy so bad wouldn't these clubs like to have a little extra income. In our area here private clubs are going public at a pretty fast pace. The club I contacted about joining has been bought and sold a couple of times in the last couple of years. They have also established an annual membership plan, but I am not quite ready to commit to 12 months, I want to see if the country club environment is for me.

Just checking to see if anyone has given this a try.

Nope, or I should say probably not. I've seen semi-privates around here offer 3 month deals, but it's usually for early spring or late fall. I highly doubt that they would want you to play a ton of rounds in the prime season for a set fee and leave.

Now that said, you very well might be able to work out some sort of exit plan into the contract to join if they are desperate for members. They probably won't give you three months, but I could see getting back your money minus a pre-determined amount per round played. It might not be that economical, but if you really want to try it out and not just play a bunch of golf for cheap it could be ok.

I'm considering a second membership at a local club to add some variety in my course options and contacted one that I have an interest in joining.

Knowing that I would not be an every day fixture there they were very open to putting together a 25 round membership that I can use whenever I like.

Perhaps this type of approach would be an option in your situation.

Good luck,
Brad

My experience has been that I would not purchase a membership for a club that allows public play.

I'm on the Membership Cmte at my club. Right now the shortest lenght committment is 12 months. That's no Initiation Fee, no F/B mins. Anywhere near Akron, OH by chance?

I would never join a club that would have me as a member.
