So what color shorts and pants will match a dark purple shirt?

Black or white/stone would both work, I reckon. Match the pants to the cap and it'll be a good look.

I second the gray. All black or all white shoes too. Match the belt with the shoes you choose.

I would agree with the gray, to the stone, and right on down to the white. I love a lot of contrast so the white pants/shorts, belt, shoes, and cap would be my favorite. Matching the pants and cap in this case is pretty key to pulling it all together.
I gotta tell you guys, it brings a little tear to my eye to find out there are others out there that pay attention to their colors and cloths. Damnit we may not all have the game we want, but without going overboard, we can all look good.
20 of us have a 2 day/36 a day tourney every year at 4 different courses. My buddies go crazy and call me an idiot, but I bring a completely different set of clothes for every round.

+1 for grey and light khaki. Not everyone can pull of white shorts..and no everyone should try either

If the purple is solid, you might be able to get away with a pair of the plaid shorts (depending on their color scheme). If the purple shirt has a design or stripes, then it will look too busy.
I also like the white pant/short idea, but I never do it because I worry about getting dirty. I take some fat pelts here in Michigan.

My thanks to you all, my fashion-conscious brothers! I was originally going to return the solid, dark purple shirt because I couldn't figure out how to color coordinate it.
Thanks to you all, I'm keeping the shirt.
PS Thanks again Ronzo and kitsoasis for helping me out again!

David Toms looked pretty sharp last weekend at the Zurich rocking the tan trousers with the white belt.

great suggestions here. I concur with grey, khaki and white. It's hard but I try to stay away from khaki as everyone wears it. Grey would look sweet. If its real dark purple, black would be too dark. If you can find a plaid short with white, grey/black and purple, that would like awesome. match belt / hat / shoes accordingly.

Maybe its my eyes, but that shirt looks more blue to me than purple....

I have 3 dark purple golf shirts and usually wear them with tan or light grey slacks. Purples look awesome with tan/khaki but not greenish khaki. Stone or lighter grey slacks are look awesome with purples, but I don't like black - too dark. Personally, I only wear black or dark blue with a white or pastel shirts. Tan or stone slacks = brown belt, all other colors=black belt. I always match my shoes to my belt. My golf hat never matches my outfit (personal style rule). Lavender shirts seem to work with everything except lighter grays or greenish khakis.
Unless you are stuck in the 70's or your name is Poulter - please do not ever wear plaid...

My son is a lifetime member of the fashion police and he says......."all black" Black cap, black HOF lizard belt and black shoes.
I have noticed he nearly ALWAYS matches his shoes to his belt to his cap no matter what he is wearing.

Yup lighter browns all the way to grey or black, rock white shoes and white belt with it all. I actually have a purple Antigua shirt on today at work, had to wear a brown belt to match the shoes, white shoes aren't really work attire, but on to the course the white belt goes on, and so do the white Adidas 360 Ltd's.

A purple shirt looks great with bone colored shorts/pants.
