If you break a shaft (good hit-just broke) while teeing off and the ball takes off to parts unknown-clubhead probably made it 100 yards-what is the penalty? Not important, but second drive resulted in a 3 on a par 4 not including the broken shaft swing.
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm too tired to get my eyes to focus in the rulebook but I'm reading the computer monitor just fine.

I believe the cause of the shot is irrelevant in this case, i.e. score it like a normal cruddy shot.

I actually had this happen to me the other day, only it was with an iron in the fairway. I went and found the ball and played it as if I had just hit a bad shot. By the way, I am clueless to how the shaft broke in my wedge and how it broke where it did...under the grip?

That's what I thought. We added two for the lost ball. It was funny. The ball started out straight and made the hardest right turn I've ever seen. It went about 50 yards down the fairway, turned right, and crossed the road which was a good 30 yards out of bounds to the nearest ditch. We thought it was going to make a U turn.

No penalty for the club breaking, but as you said, just the lost ball/ob ball penalty
