Hopefully this is the right forum to post this in.........We have our annual golf outing coming up next month and wanted to see if anyone had any fun or different games you guys play on your outings. We usually just play stroke play w/ hdcp or team best ball. I kind of wanted to do something a little different, but not a scramble. There are 8 of us and we will be playing 5 rounds if that helps. Love to hear any thoughts or suggestions.

do you prefer 4 2-man teams or 2 4-man teams?

and what are the approx. caps of the 8 players?

How about this:

Split into 4somes (teams). Each guy plays his own ball but at the end of each hole, the 4 man team records only the 3 best scores using he stableford system. 1 point for net bogey, 2 for net par, 3 for net bird and 5 for net eagle.

It is a fun format because everyone plays their own ball all the way through the hole but as far as the team competition goes, one guy can blow up on each hole without killing the team. It is kind of like match play in that there are 18 separate holes but at the same time you are just playing 18 holes of stroke play golf.

You could also play this with 2 man teams but that essentially turns into a best ball, unless you use both golfers scores on each hole. That would work as well as the stableford mixes it up. If you record an 8 while someone is making a par 4 on the same hole, you only lose 2 points to that player instead of 4 strokes.

We generally like to play four 2 man group. Hdcps range from a 2-20.

One of the events we run is a 4 round tourney. Each round has points for the net low score, closest to the pin on par 3's and everyone has a match vs another player in their foursome with points on the line. There is also an overall low net score at the end of the 4 rounds. Every point you win equates to $1.00. In the final round we play "Last Chance" where the low net for that round wins their entry fee back. We usually have 12 guys and everyone kicks in $100 - $200. The winner usually wins $400 - $500...and whoever finishes in 12th walks away with something. The final round pairings and match play competitors are based upon the points standing so it adds a bit of extra flavor to the event.

Easy to run...lots of fun and competition...
