One one hand, they are entertainers whose prize money is mostly dictated by putting on an entertaining product for their fans which may be above and beyond playing great golf with absolutely no joy or personality. (see Irwin, Hale) On the other hand it's their job...and I imagine if you filmed us all day in our profession you'd see some good things and some bad things depending on the day. Likewise, our personalities on the golf course would likely vary depending on how we are playing.
Sometimes I think we think that since they are playing a game we consider a hobby for a job, PGA pros are somehow exempt from bringing their real personalities to the course. Like in real life, some are going to have tempers, some are going to be boring, some will be very extroverted and happy go lucky....others will be introverted and hard to read. People perceive some players as 'nice guys' and other as 'a-holes' based on VERY limited glimpses on TV or a chance encounter in real life.
We all tend to think we'd be the model golf pro, but if you were being honest, how would you be perceived.....
I think I'd be an odd cross between Tommy Armour III (gotta enjoy the nightlife!), Rory Sabbatini (I play lightning fast...almost to a fault) and Tommy Bolt (yeah, I can get a little agitated on the course.....
But one of my favorite playing partners is a WRXer I'd describe as a cross between Ben Crane (ummm, methodical) and Steve Stricker (very introverted and in his game)
